I suspect it may be a Sprite Musketeer rather than a Mustang, however without photos its hard to tell anything. The Spites of that age will have been built on Sprites own chassis which is massively over engineered and should cope with rust unless it is very deep. I would take a close look at any mounting points and running gear. The wooden floor beams on Sprites of that age are susceptible to rotting but can be replaced with a bit of effort, however with a van of nearly 50 years old is it worth it unless you are going to restore it as a classic caravan.
