A good question. Some would say to make money for the company that makes it.
It smells pleasant is another reason. It may well have a better cleaning action than water, the jury is out, it's your choice ultimately.
Similarly, not everyone uses blue of green additive in the cassette, some swear by bio washing sachets.

Plain water in top tank is best I find for reason mentioned earlier. Another money saver posted earlier that I would agree with is to just drop a bio washing tab into bottom tank instead of toilet fluid. Works well enough & cheaper. Keeps the inside of tank nice & clean as well.

We switched to Elsan pink as Thetford pink was giving us black bits. The Elsan pink doesn’t create black bits and keeps the toilet bowl clean and fresh. You can use whatever you like in the top tank. Some use just plain water, other put a drop of zoflora in it, others use any one of a dozen specific toilet chemicals but I feel the Elsan pink meets our needs.

Hope you don’t mind me jumping in on this post. With us now having to use our onboard facilities, I was just wondering what people are using to clean their toilet pan with after having a number 2? We use organic green in the tank for flushing, but not sure what to use after flushing if pan is soiled? I’ve just brought a toilet brush and I’m hoping you guys can point me in the right direction for what to use?

pink toilet fluid is the norm, it goes in the flush, but some say it can make the black bits, we havent had that problem mind you hubby is very tight with it and waters it down a lot,

You can get bowl liners or just place some well placed toilet paper round the sides of the bowl.

Matter of choice but find pink or whatever in the flush tank helps keep it cleaner and gives the WC a pleasant smell.
