Hello, after years of camping we decided to buy a ‘new to us’ caravan to see how we like it. Went away this weekend and really enjoyed it. The caravan is an Ace Jubilee Globetrotter 2006. We’d like to purchase an awning but not one that goes the full length of the caravan, more a porch style or about half the size of the van. I’ve looked online and places like gumtree but I can’t figure out what size to buy to know if it will fit. Would love an air one for ease but really don’t want to spend more than around £300 and don’t think I’ll get one for that price. Whilst the caravan is immaculate inside and great as a starter, the plan is to upgrade to a much newer caravan in a couple of years if we really enjoy caravanning and make good use of it so I don’t want to spend too much if the awning may not fit a newer caravan.
Thanks
Mamasher

if you can hang on for about 2 months the prices will start to come down for the wintertime, as for what size, you need to measure the roofline from the back corner to just forward of your kitchen window just guessing but i think its 2.80-300cms and you will be surprised but i bet you can get a deecent awning for that sort of money

The height is the critical bit for a porch awning, but as far as I know they are all standard from about 1990 onwards. Earlier caravans tended to have a pitched roof and the sides were therefore lower, as I found out with a 1988 Elddis Tornado. I bought an air-awning for it and it didn't fit properly.

The question of air-awnings being easier is a debatable one that has cropped up many times on here. I thought the same as you that it would be easier so I bought one (the one that didn't fit), but I found that it was a lot heavier than the poled one we bought it to replace, as it came all in one piece. My wife and I are getting on a bit and both have back problems and we really struggled with it so we went back to using the poled one which came in several pieces that zipped together. We still have the air awning. Used it twice and never used it since.

Colin

We are both getting on a bit as well and wanted to downsize the awning, we went for a SunnCamp Swift Air SC 325 with FREE Carpet - 2020 Model. The height is 235-250cm. Brilliant extra space and so easy to pump up and take down. You do get the side skirt but not the wheel arch panel. Free pump and a few pegs + front curtain (we had our own screw pegs). Less than £300, shop around and you will find a bargain, I have seen them for less than £200. We bought a couple of poles from maybay for the front canopy.

everything will be O.K. in the end, if it's not O.K. then it's not the end.

We have a Kampa Rally Pro 260, its mainly used on shorter trips and early or late in the year. Its the poled type not air.

We found it online, a previous years model so reduced. With groundsheet, storm guys and rear poles it was just over £300.As it was in midlands we collected it. Had it 3 years and very pleased with it.

We have a full Dorema which we use on our main holidays in France, nice and big with zip out panels. Must be 15 years old now, faded but no leaks.

Hi
Had a couple porch awnings, both 300 cost less than £150 each.
Had a 400 westfield roll out for last few years and sold that for £175.
Bought a porch again, Inaca 360 for £240.
And that's 5 years old.

You will find a bargain out there just wait.

We have just bought a secondhand awning from this guy, he has listed availability on his website.

Bought it Thursday morning, it arrived Friday morning.
Couldn't ask for better service

What you need to consider with a porch awning whether it be a poled or air version is to measure along the caravan from the door past the window. Quite often people will buy a porch awning whereby one of the poles fall directly in front of a window. Because the window is contoured from top to bottom (not flat) it will be impossible to shut out the draught plus in windy conditions the pole will rub against the window causing surface scratch marks. I was limited to the 260 porch awning due to this reason which you can see in my profile. If the 260 falls in front of a window then you may need to consider the next size up such as a 330 but that all depends on the length of the caravan. just thought it was worth mentioning being newbies to caravanning and having no previous experience with awnings.

A very good point Tango. We couldn't use our porch awning from our last caravan on the one we have now for that very reason.
