The more Wattage is better. you have to work out the cost, and if its cost effective. I only use solar panels for the caravan, not on the vehicle, its my choice. The caravan battery is different to a cranking battery on a vehicle.
The size of a solar panel depends how much power you need ? next month hopefully i shall be in a field for 2 weeks. We have the electrics in the van, lights, water pump, heating [wet ] if required, tv. So I have 100 watts fix3ed on the roof, then a suitcase solar, which plugs into the battery, 120Watts, It seems a lot, but on a good day sunny, gives about 10 AMPS. So if we use all the appliances and its a dull day, we have to ration what we use. Its ok saying 80W keep the battery charged. But will it keep it charged when in use. Then if there is poor sun, ,no solar power, I have used solar for 10yrs, its a learning curve, they are brilliant but not perfect.
