I have just bought an old touring caravan to act as a spare room - for social distancing and personal space reasons as we live in a small cottage. So it is going to sit permanently in the garden on a level, well-drained grassy site, wheels on concrete slab.

Will sitting on grass permanently make the floor of the caravan prone to damp? Would it be better to cover the area with a plastic membrane and cover that with stone chip (we have a plenty to spare)?

Any advice gratefully received.

When my van was stored on grass at a farm we eventually got mice in it. On concrete or tarmac etc we have never had mice.

The grass tended to grow up around the edges but not much underneath, presumably due to lack of sun.

I'd tend to go for no grass, a breathable black membrane, like they use to kill weeds would be my choice.

The grass is going to die anyway, so may as well put membrane and gravel down.

Have you considered fake grass? Look far better than a membrane, and wont start breaking up with wind and rain.
