Thanks Marg6 it is! Luckily my husband has experience of towing a trailer for work and a 21 foot boat so towing is not a problem. Youve hit the nail on the head. The sales team told us that they sell demo caravans at the same price as new ones - they told us we were having one specially built for us on 14th Sept but deny all knowledge of having said this making us look like a couple of idiots. In the meantime another caravan has appeared on the scene - Clearly we’re not having one specially built for us which makes us feel very naive - we just need to make sure it’s come straight from the factory and is not a spruced up demo.

tell them that unless you get exactly what was agreed at the point of sale then you will refuse delivery, you agreed to buy a brand new untouched caravan not what basically amounts to a secondhand van! unless of course they agree to a decent discount, in the same way when you buy a new build house, you view the show house, but get a brand new home. if you wanted the show house then you would get all sorts of discounts extras etc. and if they agree to anything make sure its written down on the sale sheet and your receipt as proof this time

also towing a trailer or boat is nothing like towing this weight of caravan at all, they get pushed about by the air pressure of wagons and wind etc, what car are you intending to use to tow this with?
When you pick up the caravan, make sure you spend a lot of time checking everything.
Every light, drawer, cupboard, heating... everything.
What else will be included, often a new van will come without a battery, gas bottle, pigtail.?
Try and have your first outing near the dealership, when they are open....just in case.
Probably a good idea to inspect the van, before you do the paper work.
I’m sure everything will be fine.
Have fun!
John
John thank you for your great advice. We went to see the van today - there are labels on everything the fridge freezer and the sink have the sticky covering on them the mattress is still sealed in polythene so all good. We will take your advice and check every little detail when we pick the van up. We are booked into a local campsite for three nights on picking up the van just in case
The dealer should do a PDI (Pre Delivery Inspection) and you should have a sheet with all the4 boxes ticked to say they have. The last thing you want is to discover a major fault the night before you go away meaning you cancel your holiday, tow the van 100 miles each way for the dealer to rectify in 3 months time if you are lucky.
We have been lucky with both our new vans but did have some small issues. Luckily we lived 1 mile from the dealer and it did not stop us using the van.
I would be tempted to take a trip to the dealer and any other of his outlets just to see if he has a demo version of your van. If he has take a picture of the vin number. Selling a demo version for full price is frankly rubbish you expect a discount.
Also remember that the dealer will be your best friend until precisely the moment you hand over the cash. Also make sure you have paid some money on a credit card because it buys you a lot of extra protection. Good luck and I hope you enjoy your new van.
