Just had our caravan looked at as there was staining in the rear bathroom offside wall not bad looking just a blue tinge thru the wall board . Had one estimate to replace the rear seal , rear offside awning rail seal and stop ends it is £650 he says the wallboard may need replaced but we can leave it and see how it looks . And another for doing the same work plus the other awning rail too he saysthere is a crack on the grp panel that needs fixed from the inside so he wants take out the sink toilet cupboard and fix it then replace all the wallboards £3000 .with it being a 2006 not sure its worth doing as i cannot afford that anyway.
We are using it for a holiday over the next few weeks so i an wondering if i can use Captains Creeping stuff for a temporay fix then possibly on return do the seals myself and leave it and see how it drys out .
So i have many questions
1 is it possible for newbie to do this repair? My diy skills are ok nothing great.
2 what screws do i use as i see people recommend different ones ?
3 What sealant as again different opinions and how much sealant?
4 Can i seal the crack in the panel from the outside in anyway ?
Sorry for being long winded just pulling my hair out with worry .
I was thinking duck tape everything lol

Plenty advice on some of above links.

I’ve done Several and always use mastic tape with a little extruding tube of sealant as appropriate. Take your time, clean off old stuff completely, and have someone to help you when you carefully present the rail back to the caravan. That stuff grabs when it touches.

Thanks I have now read all I can on here so I am going to attempt it myself .
Seems straight forward and fairly inexpensive but time consuming so I guess that's why the estimates are high. I believe in doing it myself if I can seal it and wait and see what internal damage appears at least I will not have spent a fortune on a lost cause.

Make sure you get correct width of tape (if that’s your plan) . I’m not especially good at DIY but it was easy enough. If you don’t have stainless steel screws, you should get them. Check that the wood is sound by screwing in a good bit before you do all the work If the wood is gone, you could try drilling through the rail further along with fingers crossed it’s very localised. Very slightly bigger screws. Might be better.
Report back when finished. Re your crack, I’d be tempted to put super glue over the crack and hope for the best, or click on the search facility button on here and check all forums for cracked GRP

Been to see the caravan repairer today to get my caravan back . I had spoken to him only on the phone. A exceptionally open and honest guy having explained what I was going to do because I cannot afford to get it done .
He explained that his estimate of £3000 including vat was for most of the internal work.The upshot is he offered to reseal the complete rear of the caravan and fill the small cracks for £300 the main crack he has given me advice regarding it and what to do in the meantime. when I want the rest done I can do it myself and he will supply the materials to me .
He is not sure how it will dry out but said the van has plenty of life left in it and is happy to give advice regarding my diy .
So upshot I am not feeling as bad now thnks for all the advice.

Funnily his advice for the longer crack on the rear panel was in fact Duct Tape lol he said get clear tape from screwfix called T-Rex tape for the mean time and when I pick up the van after the reseal he will explain further

No one knows the extent of the damp behind the wallboard so I think he was quoting worst case scenario.
For example I had a caravan that needed the whole side sorting due to a small leak through the base of the status aerial, his protimeter had never worked so hard

Luckily it was under warranty so I picked another one
