Hi some advice please new to caravanning. We viewed a caravan we are thinking of buying from a relative we paid to have an inspection and it has damp at the front not in the floor possibly a leak from the front window initially we were told by the relative that it wasn’t too bad and we can fix it also a few other issues to make it towable they knocked a couple hundred off but having now spoken to the engineer the damp is a lot worse than we are being told and he said to have it repaired would cost around £2000 which make it a very expensive old caravan help please no idea what to do if it wasn’t for a relative it would be easy but they think they are doing us a favor help
Just tell the relative you have gave up on the idea of caravanning but just keep looking for a good damp free one in your price range.
------------- XVI yes?
As well is two words!

Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.

Unless you are good at DIY I suggest you stay away from it, the only favour they are doing is off loading a problem for you to sort out.
Tell them you will buy it if they got a proper caravan engineer to fix it at their expense, or tell them you can't afford it. good job you got it checked first.
The engineer will most probably be pretty close with his estimate.
When was it last serviced?
what is the make model and year of the caravan and how much are they wanting from you? then take a look around for the same caravan, are they really doing you a favour?
there are plenty of caravans out there of all prices and layouts, once you have the max weight your car and licence can tow, then if you let us know i bet we could find you something without the damp
