Hi all
This has probably been asked before but.....
Should I go for a twin axle or single axle, I am leaning toward a twin, as it would be more stable to tow with but will I reduce the amount of sites I can get on?
Hi, having had both, TA everytime if your car and licence allows. A TA tows so much better and not had a problem on sites, only found one that we liked the look of that wouldn't take a TA van.
Always use Google maps to study roads leading to sites as well.
Only problem can be manouevering them as a single is easier to turn.

I have always found reversing with a TA is easier than with a single axle, however with a motor mover a single axle will turn tighter than a TA. If you have a suitable vehicle a removable offset front mounted towball will let you push a TA into just about any space. TA's are certainly more stable when towing but factor in the increased service costs and four tyres to change instead of two. depending on the model and tyres you might find that the tyres on a TA will be at a lower pressure than a SA and together with a lower loading per tyre they are less likely to blow out and if they do get punctured the unit is much more stable and easier to bring to a safe stop.
Which is better for you is up to your circumstances and although I have a TA I might go to a SA if I stay single and get a smaller lighter caravan for my advancing years.

True, I should have said with a motor mover, we only have one on ours and needs a bit of help and encouragement up the drive, but we are young and fit enough for a bit of a push.
we have had both, well still have the TA but towed both with the same car, the twin wins hands down, much more stable, however, simply getting thr some entrances can be an issue, ours is too heavy the hand ball really but we have done it a few times. for actually getting a pitch? never had a problem.
Thanks for the replies, I am almost certain that i will go for the TA option, as i have a single now, and i do feel it move alot during towing. Have heard lots of rumours about sites, but then i am hearing more that say that there is no problem, so that is heartening. May need to buy a new tow car too though lol

Thanks for the reply, we are looking at something the size of the Bailey senator, Louisiana.
Something with an island bed at the rear, still haven't settled on the exact van as yet, but when i see it I will chase it.
Licence wise I have no issues and had many years as an HGV driver so towing is not a problem
New tow car...there goes the slippery slope to spending more than you planned!
Have you had a look here- they have lots of layout variations to whittle down what you may like. With island bed at rear just have to watch you don't overfill the base and affect your noseweight with too much weight at the back.
Good luck in your search.

We had a TA with the bed at the rear and we needed to make sure that the are under the bed was empty before towing. We now have a layout where we have a transverse island bed and are now able to leave stuff under the bed when towing as they are immediately behind the rear axle. Bathroom is at the rear.
Towed with both for many years.
Had TA for last 6 years and i love it, more stable easy to move around on site reversing on pitch, and only on single motor mover for the last line up of the van.
But please watch your weight limit, as its so so easy to load up to much.
I pull with a disco and its so easy to overloaded without knowing, due to the pulling power of the tow car.
Hi I’m in a similar situation deciding between swift challenger 560 and 650 TA ,never towed a TA before and have concerns about mpg and service running costs manoeuvring, any advice gratefully received.
