Hello, I am seeking some info about tyres.
I have searched the forums and internet and not yet found what I need.
I have a Milenco Wheel Clamp to sell and I am not sure what tyre sizes it will fit.
I used it on my Elddis Typhoon 2000GTX which had 175 14 tyres, and on my Typhoon Crusader which had 185 R 14 tyres.
But
I will not close on my Affinity which has 185R14C tyres, inflated to pressure recommended by Elddis.
Are the 14C tyres a bigger diameter than the others.
Just need to be correct when I put it on Gumtree.
C (for commercial/van tyres) rated tyres are not bigger in overall diameter per se, but may be a higher profile than other tyres, plus they don't always have the profile on the sidewall info or stated in spec., but are generally 80 profile.
You can calculate the overall tyre diameter fairly accurately if you know ALL the tyre figures including the profile from specification or sidewall markings.
Bit confusing because wheel diameters are in inches whilst tyre widths are millimetres, but simple conversion of 25.4mm to one inch makes number crunching fairly simple. The profile is the width to height ratio of the tyre, 70 profile is 70% as high as wide.
Overall Diameter = Wheel dia. plus ((tyre width x profile as a percentage) x 2)
Example: For a 14 in rim and 175/70 tyre
OD = 14 plus ((175/25.4)x0.7) x2) = 23.65 inches (or 600mm)
For a 14 in rim and 185/80 tyre
OD = 14 plus ((185/25.4)x0.8) x2) = 25.65 inches (or 651mm)
Why not simply go by Millenco description for your particular clamp
