My husband and I are the proud new owners of a 2018 Coachman VIP 650. We’re were young and fit enough to push it from the road onto our drive but it’s not ideal (I have bingo wing ache).
We might go down the motor mover route but really don’t know which is the best option?

Having moved to a motorhome a few years ago I am a bit out of touch with the available models of motor movers. What I would say is that they are very worth while bits of equipment. On some sites its not such an easy task to push the van into place and a mover takes a lot of the stress out of it.

the issue is not lack of strength but that fact your van is a twin axle weighng in at 1800kgs! to move tht using a motor mover your talking of putting a 4 wheel mover on it reducing your payload by approx 75kgs! that is a lot of weight to loose. what about looking into alternatives? perhaps something such as the big foot type of movers that attach onto where your jockey wheel is, and take the power from crocodile clips from the battery, or some of them have a battery fitted, this then stays at home from when you get back, you just fit it on the roadside and move your caravan onto the driveway
Marg6 I've heard that these types of devices lack traction against the wheels so aren't as easy as motor movers. Is the extra weight really going to be an issue? We tow with a Disco 3 if that's of any use?
We have a Powrtouch mover and have been very pleased with it. Their customer service is excellent and when we had an issue with the control box in July they sorted it out for us and sent us the replacement part within 36 hours.
That Coachman has a payload of 160kg so if you take up 60kg with movers you will only be able to carry 100kg. Obviously if your mover weighs 75kg your available payload will be reduced to 85kg. Your choice of tow car does not affect the weight limit of your caravan.
I Would go for a Powrtouch mover, I would also ask about a weight upgrade if the extra weight is going to be a problem.
One slip while pushing and it could result in a bad back etc, the pain from the back will last a lot longer than the pain in the pocket from buying a mover.
The hitch type movers are notorious for slipping on anything other than a tarmac type surface.
I'm on my second powrtouch, the first lasted 17 years and to fair to them while the chap was fitting the new one he found joins in the cable which could have been the problem (the wires at the joins were black).
Another thing to consider is what damage could be done to the ABS or GRP panels while pushing and pulling.
The Powrtouch evolution https://www.powrtouch.com/evolution-twin-axle-manual-engage/ will work on a twin axle with only 2 movers and weighs 35k. I have the manual model on a single axle and personally I would avoid the auto engage as I've heard of several problems with that. This model will move up to 2000k up a 25% gradient.

Ask Coachman if they can uprate the plate, most manufacturers will but some by much more than others depending on how much they are pushing the chassis limits. I have a single axle motor mover on my TA but it has the pulsing software to reduce tyre scrub which a normal SA mover would not. It will not turn as tight as a TA mover but it does not obstruct the Alko jacking points either. I still prefer to use a front mounted tow bar especially if the caravan needs to go up or down a fairly steep gradient. I'm pretty sure Watling Engineers still do them for Disco's and they are a lot cheaper than a mover. There is some video on their website - https://www.watling-towbars.co.uk/front_towbars.html

We have a twin axle caravan and initially it had a single axle mover, but struggled on tight turns on campsites especially on the continent.
We have had a Powertouch with 5 year no quibble warranty AWD auto engage motor mover fitted about 2 years ago and no more worries. Weight is 60kgs off your payload.
Have had a Powertouch auto for years. They came and fitted it on my drive. Excellent after sales service, Had no problems with it. Costly but worth it!
Thanks guys. I’m convinced we now need to invest but I’m on to problem two: We fitted a kojack so that we could get both Alko locks on. Will this now be in the way of a motor mover?

TBH I don't think any of us could answer that question as no idea where the Kojak was fitted. Also a lot depends whether you have decided to for a a single or AWD self engaging motor mover.
We used a Lock n Level and it worked for us. Brilliant piece of kit and easy to use.
