Hi all iam really struggling to find the size awaning for our caravan.. it's a lunar solar 524 1997 .. I've found a website and it says 965cm but I cannot find a awaning this size .. I want a second hand one not new as they are so expensive.. any help would would be great

You don't need to know the size as all awning manufacturers apply their own sizes independently so you could end up buying the wrong size for your caravan. Have a look at the link below which shows you how to measure for a full awning (X to Y) and adhere to that measurement when you are buying. What I'm saying is that a specific size in a Bradcot could be different to Dorema or Isabella or Trio for example.

Awning sizes go in ranges, so it's not essential to get one that is exactly 965cm.

I got my awning from a caravan breaker who said that they often come in with caravans for breaking. Unfortunately the breaker I got it from is no longer there or I would give you their details. It is the awning shown on my profile pictures and I got it for £85. It's a good, very strong awning, so they are out there.

I doubt any awning manufacturer does exact sizes. All the awnings I have bought have covered a range of about 25 cm,ie 950-975 or 975-1000 for example. Obviously there are many more size ranges but 950/975 would be perfect for your van. There are awnings of that size on fleabay.

The reason why each awning can't be an exact size is because the workers who manufacture and stitch the awning segments together have to have a tolerance to work to just like anything else that is made or fabricated in a specific industry. When stitching together an average of 1,000 centimetres of loose fabric on every awning it's impossible to get each one exactly to within a few millimetres so they have a bottom tolerance to a top tolerance which is the range of size. What you have to remember is that 10 centimetres is only 4 inches so the range in metric size is not as great as you may think it is. All you have to do is convert metric to imperial (online calculator) to get a better judgement of the total range size.

I see they have a Trio Midi porch awning, which is what I had for my previous caravan. Unfortunately it wouldn't fit my current caravan as the door is in a different place and I don't like awnings coming halfway across windows. Shame, as it was a lovely awning. I still have it so maybe I should sell it. I liked it so much I looked out for another Trio awning, and I found the one I have now which is a full awning as on my profile. It's a Trio Sombrero. Very good, very strong, and dead easy to put up.

We've got a 2017 Lunar Quasar 554 and bought a new Westfield Airies air awning. It wasn't until after we'd bought it that we found out that most Lunar vans are a lower height (ground to awning rail) that the rest of the manufacturer's caravans. We've been in touch with Westfield and they've told us that shortening the air tubes might solve the problem - it didn't. We're now in the process of a diy job putting a big 'tuck' in the canvas at each side - if it doesn't work it'll be £750 down the drain. Wish we'd known before we bought it.

We made a similar mistake with our last Caravan with a Westfield air awning. It didn't fit at all well. We found it was far too heavy for us to manage anyway, so it only got used twice. Because it was too heavy we have never tried it on our current caravan. We bought a second-hand much larger poled awning that is much easier for us to manage.
