We have just had our caravan serviced at home. It is so much easier than having to hook it up and take it on a fifty mile round trip to where we used to take it.(Reads, Blackburn, no longer there)This is the third year we have had it done at home. The service etc is registered with Swift each year.
We are very happy bunnies too as it’s as dry as a bone.

Yes, we have had ours serviced at home this year. Certainly made life a lot easier. Like you, we had a 50 mile round trip to make and would have to hang around for hours waiting.

Up until this year we have always taken our vans back to the dealer for servicing which has been a bit of a nuisance as our current dealer is 50 miles away and insists that the caravan is completely empty before it is dropped off with them and left for a week, so in essence, it is a 200 mile trip for us as we drop it off one week and pick it up the next.

Our van was due it’s service a few weeks ago so as soon as we went into lockdown, we realised it was not going to be possible. The dealer contacted us to say that they were cancelling our service but not to worry, as swift were extending the service period due to Covid and we could get it serviced when lockdown is over. However, I was foreseeing a huge backlog of vans needing serviced after lockdown and a long wait for a service slot so we didn’t want to wait. I did a bit of searching online for reviews of the local mobile guys who are registered with the approved workshop scheme and gave one a call. He fitted us in about a week before the service anniversary of our caravan, came and did the service very efficiently, registered it for us on the swift website and didn’t require us to remove any items from the caravan. It was just so much easier than having to take it to the dealer that I doubt we will go back to using the dealer for future servicing.

Wow Path20, I was not aware that “Read Caravans” had gone since 2019, I would often pop in there when I was working in the area, to have a mooch at the caravans and have a look at the TT’s and FC’s that we’re kept under cover, the accessories shop was also worth a look.

Sad that after 50 years they are now gone, despite a major refurbishment and being taken over by Campbells Caravan of Preston back in 2017.

We have a registered service engineer in the same business park as our caravan storage. All I do is drop the keys off with them when servicing is due and a couple of days later I'll pick the keys up again...Easy Peasy!!

Yes, emptying the van to take it for a warranty service was a pain, as soon as the warranty had expired we had it done at home. So much easier, plus I think a better job is done, you can see him doing it and ask his advice. Much cheaper too.

Our caravan is still under warranty, Our mobile chappie is a Swift approved workshop/repairer.

Same as most response have stated, used the dealer we purchased the van from for the first couple of years agonising 200 mile round trip.

I have used a mobile AWS engineers for 7/8 years now. The last 4 service (including the one booked in for March) have been completed by Olympic Caravan Services at our Storage site.

What happens if the mobile service engineer finds a fault? Will he fix it under warranty? If not will the agent who sold it be willing to do a repair if they have not serviced it every year?
Hving it serviced at home seems such a good idea but are there problems?

We camped for years. In 2019 we bought an Elddis Avante 454. We like it as it is short (6.9m) and fits in our driveway and has a fixed bed.
We had 127 nights away in the caravan in 2023.

i will be glad when our van is service this year for the 3rd time we live in barnsley and we bought it from glossop caravans the other side of the pennines we will go back to using the mobile service gent we have used before he only lives about 1 mile from us and he is very informative and does a great job and a lot cheaper

Our mobile guy is approved by all the major component suppliers to the caravan industry eg Alde, Dometic, Thetford etc and he is able to make any repairs and carry out any warranty work related to these components as he makes the claims directly to each individual company rather than to the caravan builder. The only thing he isn’t allowed to do warranty work on is the body of the caravan so if there was damp and it was under warranty, it would have to go back to the dealer or if there was any other warranty issue with the chassis or build of the van.

yes mobile engineers may be great, but what do you do if they find damp, or need a part from what i understand they carnt put warranty claims in so have to go back to dealer, that's if they want to do job as you have not been using them, witch is more hassle than its work, i stand corrected????

The one we use registers with Swift each service. They are a Swift approved workshop and carry out all repairs. Check out Yorkshire Tourers.

Correct, but you can take the caravan to the dealer and tell them to repair the damp as they are obligated to do so by CRA 2015 and cannot refuse the claim.
