Hi we are going to buy our first caravan, I know we need insurance and storage but what else is there I need to be looking at.
Any advice will be much appreciated
Ray
If you are buying second hand - it may come with some of this kit (unless the sellers are getting a new caravan)
You will definitely need a number plate and towing mirrors for when you first pick it up (nose weight gauge or bathroom scales to weigh noseweight will also come in handy)
Hi my top tip would be if you need to rent storage for your caravan find and rent a space before you get a van, when we was looking last year I only found 1 space in Northamptonshire! and ENJOY! I'm sure you will love it
------------- Beer is the answer...
but i can't remember the question !!!
When did you pass your test? Post 1997 you will be limited to weight of car and caravan (3500kg) unless you do a trailer/towing course which is another cost to factor in.
When you are going to buy a caravan - be it new or old - you MUST check for damp. (Water Ingress). Older caravans are mostly constructed with wooden spars and if the wood has been wet it will start to rot and is VERY expensive to repair. The damp percentage is found out with a damp meter which are about £10. Any reading above 20 percent is your first warning sign. Check BEFORE you buy. Any decent seller will allow this but any that do object then be suspicious.
Just one other thing, it is illegal not to have extended arm driving mirrors if the caravan is wider than the tow car. Not having them is dangerous and you could be fined up to a £1000.
