As I understand campsites can open on 12th of April but without toilets or shower facilities.
If so will customers get a discount as these facilities are included in the price

As always, check with individual sites.
Not all sites previously "Included these in the pitch price".
Just as examples, some didn't offer showers previously, and some did, but at extra cost (usually on coin meter).
We've seen sites with free use of washing machines and freezers, others that charge, and others that don't offer them at all.
As things stand, as the government is making the rules, I sincerely doubt many sites will be offering a reduced pitch fee because of reduced facilities, as this is being forced upon them, and therefore "Not their fault".

If and when individual sites continue to keep such facilities closed... voluntarily... I suspect that will be because they are happy with their income from customers with their own facilities, so once again, I doubt the pitch fee will be reduced.

We have a site booked for a few weeks time and as far as I am aware, there is no reduction in price because the facilities are closed but the site is passing on the VAT reduction so the price will be slightly reduced.

If nothing else, Covid has brought to light lots of inconsistencies. For instance tents usually require the site facilities and I assume charged accordingly, but caravans and campervans have their own facilities but are often charged more than tents.

At many sites now, where the facilities will not be open, caravans and campervans with their own facilities are welcome whereas tents are not. Will caravans and campervans still be charged at a higher price?

All a bit confusing but I guess campsites will say that the facilities are provided free to all regardless of the pitch fee...so why a difference in pitch fees

...and I won't get into why larger tents are charged more than smaller tents even if only occupied by one person.

Sites can open their toilet/shower blocks from May 17th. I can’t see them not doing that so we shall go from then.

Isn't VAT still charged at 5% and if so that is a saving?

Yes, the published prices on the CMC website include 20% VAT but when you arrive at the site you only pay 5% VAT so the price will be lower than what it says on your booking reservation. However, not all sites are passing on the VAT reduction to customers.

Lots of sites don't have facilities at all. If these are a must, ask the site first. If they aren't on offer, dont book. That said, i honestly believe anyone still 'waiting to book' is going to come unstuck.

You may be right about "coming unstuck" if you are referring to people who want to book a specific site on a specific date, particularly if that date is a Friday or Saturday in peak times. However, there are many like us who only ever book last minute, but who are not so tied. I see no reason to change our habits as we have never had a problem before. If a site we try to book is full when we contact them, we either change the site or change the day. We never go anywhere in peak season, school or bank holidays, and we normally start on a Monday. Often we have found that a site that is fully booked on the Saturday is half-empty on Monday, because all the weekenders have gone home. We learnt that one long ago. I think that some may have problems this year, but others who are able to be more flexible probably won't.

Incidentally, you are right, there is no obligation on any site to provide toilet facilities, and indeed some don't.

Just been looking at some C&CC sites, for the week of 19th - still some availabily for grass pitches with electric. For members, also a range of discounts. - 20% on grass, 30% for old codgers, which made it look quite attractive. Weekends were more limited. Toilet blocks shut, of course - didn’t look to see if tents with portapotties were allowed.

If memory serves, all campsites must offer at least a standpipe and waste disposal - though I remember going to a rally where the latter was a big scoop made (and presumably filled) by a digger.

We can also go pretty much when we like. But this year, places began filling up pretty quick. I have a number of sites booked in the next few months - (which i fully intend keeping. Unlike those that block book and bugger it up for the rest by cancelling at the 11th hour), but some were 2nd and 3rd attempt with the dates, or even 2nd choice site at the time i wanted. More than a couple of these were booked in February. Maybe if you are just looking for a very basic five van site in a wide area, you may be ok. (and theres nothing wrong with basic five vanners, btw. You are 99% guaranteed no kids!)
