hi all , just been watching my local news programme (Calendar for Yorkshire)
and it mentioned people with sd satelite boxes, will not be able to receive calendar from April 13 , 2 days ago,
i have an old satelite box , in my van, that we use when on holiday, dunno if its sd or hd but its probably 15 years old, we usually watch the calendar news, when away from yorkshire, cos thats what the box is set for. does anyone know if the box will still work, or is it just the calender thats afected, is this true for other regions?

The issue that impacts some is nothing to do with gaining HD, but losing SD.
For those of us that care for the planet, it is depressing to be dismissed with buy a TV with an HD satellite decoder, plus the junking of otherwise usable TVs and stand alone decoders.
I does not stop there, it significantly impacts on the amount of data storage needed for recorded content. Along with that, it screws up the use of USB memory sticks for files over 4 GB, easily swamped by even an F1 race in HD format. Anything over 4 GB has to be stitched into multiple files.
Great that technology marches on, and this of value with devices able display it, just a shame they choose to make existing kit obsolete with the premature negative environmental impact that forces.
Got to agree with you JTQU.
I'll usually opt to record programs on my home sat box in SD rather than HD format to make best use of disc space for one thing. I don't find the difference in quality sufficient to drive me unquestionably to HD!
When in the caravan, the image on a 21" or so TV is perfectly adequate in SD and barely noticeably better in HD, and as mentioned recording to a USB stick is only really sensible in SD!
I don't like this attitude of throwing away and replacing perfectly functional equipment for 'political' or commercially driven reasons. It's not that I can't afford new equipment, it's that I'm not dissatisfied with the old stuff! We seem to be forced more and more frequently to 'upgrade' for the sake of 'technical' improvements that are barely beneficial to the user and positively harmful to the planet. I'm certainly not a tech-chaser who must have the latest equipment!
