I am new to caravanning and started my adventure at the weekend. It seems that I cannot get 6kg color gas bottles anywhere within 100 miles though. Any suggestions on what to do as one hotplate for cooking everything is a pain.

Strange that you cant find a place that stocks Calor, caravan dealers usually sell them, Glossops in your area may have them,or you can just google Calor stockists in your area, hope you manage to find one
Have you tried ebay, Gumtree or Preloved, you might be in luck.
------------- XVI yes?
As well is two words!
How does a sage know everything about everything? or does he? or does he just think he does?
Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.
I believe there is a shortage of 6Kg Calor bottles nationwide. You could try your local tip.
One other tip, if you intend using your van in the winter months, try to get the red ones, they are propane and work when when it gets cold, the blue ones are butane and don't work well at temperatures below 5 degrees C.
Note that they have different connections so you may need to swap the end connection but you may be lucky and the old one was red.

Teach a man to fish and you can get rid of him for a whole weekend.
I would have thought that the most obvious place to check first is on the Calor website and click on 'Find a retailer' in the top right hand corner. I'm sure you can find a stockist that sells 6 kg. gas bottles within a 100 mile radius.
It seems that all the normal dealers do not have any but the preferred partners do and so thank you all for the responses. I have 2 arriving tomorrow. Thanks to Kevin T particularly for pointing me in the right direction.

Glad you got sorted in the end and thanks for replying with the outcome.

Calor's 6 kg are Propane, as said Red.
The same bottle size with blue paint and different connector is their
7kg Butane, it is a denser LPG.
Flo-gas, do a dead ringer for the Calor 6 kg Propane; but the bottles are not intertradable.
However, the building trade frequently use Flo-gas so these are extensively available at builders merchants.
Flo-gas web site gives the cylinder dealer network, IMO it is suprisingly extensive.
