Hello everyone, Just returning after 40 years break. Back then, we belonged to the Caravan Club and particularly liked certified locations. Which club would you recommend, bearing in mind the number of sites, stunning locations, etc?

We are a member of both clubs. We get a great caravan insurance deal through the Camping and Caravanning Club, and they also have a few sites that we love and use each year. On the other hand the Caravan Club always get us the best ferry deal to France and we tend to use their sites more often. Both clubs have the small sites that you are looking for, the Camping and Caravanning Club call them CS and the Caravan Club call them CL. Both clubs have a lot to offer and if we had to just join one of them it would be a tricky decision!

I am with both, C&CC since 2017 when I was a tenter, joined CAMC last year as I needed to book one of their club sites for an event in September 2021.

Not stayed at any CAMC sites yet, however, I have good vibes about them based on their website alone which is way better than the one at C&CC.

C&CC comes across as being antiquated and fuddy-duddy compared with CAMC, IMHO.

The C&CC is a pain in the arse now for anything other than CS' if you have to amend bookings. That said, their sites aren't as regimented as the CAMC sites.

As some of these earlier threads will suggest.... Join both for the first year, ditch membership of one (or both or neither!) at renewal if you've not used it enough.
There are so many excellent small independent sites (all listed on UKCS via the Camp Site Search tab), we rarely use our C&CC membership for their big club sites or for their Certificated ones. Bear in mind that CAMC has a joining fee, so it's not one to join now & then when you need it.
There are pro's and con's to both Clubs, but what these are will vary from person to person.

We belong to both even though we don't use many C&CC sites but both Clubs have sites that are useful to us in as much they are near towns and villages.

Ok. The die is cast. We joined the C& MC with a direct debit so no joining fee. We'll see how it goes. Thanks for your help everyone. A couple more challenges. The tow bar fitted can't get the electrics to work fully on our Skoda Octavia Estate, but managed to track down gas bottles in spite of national shortage. Now looking for cheap insurance.

Make sure any 'cheap' insurance is going to cough up if required. No point saving £25 if they never pay out.

i could never understand the pricing ...different rates for different times of the year etc

i am a memeber of the CAMHC. unfortunately something like 30,000 new members joined the CAMHC in the last year and by the look of it they are taking advantage of the diposit free booking and 48h cancellation policy.

before paying nearly £60 for membership check the availablity of their club sites. i have been a member of the CAMHC for 4 years now, primarily to take advantage of ferry booking discounts and redpennent breakdown cover.

i have been looking for sites to take my caravan when my children are not at school and everything is full.

i do believe there will be cancellations though especially if the weather forcast is bad.
