Just wondering if anyone had any ideas? We have got a problem with our external electrics working. We can only get the indicators working and have changed all the fuses but can’t get the brake lights etc to work. The tow bar is fine as we have a trailer too. We’ve looked at the hook up socket and it looks fine and it was all ok until after we put it into storage. Just wondering if anyone had any suggestions?
We’ve checked the connection and it looks dry and pretty decent. I don’t think it will be water ingress on the lights themselves as the it’s the front lights and back brakes lights including the rear brake light above the bathroom window. Think it’s a check on the wiring then. Thanks.
With multiple light failures pay particular attention to earth (negative) cabling and connections as that is common to all lights. Often a junction somewhere that individual lamp cables feed into for the single earth cable.
I had the same problem a few days ago whereby I had a dashboard display stating 'Trailer Light Bulb Failure'. I thought it may be the wiring but too much of a coincidence really so considered it to be just damp in the towing plug as it has been constantly cold and wet recently. Inside the plug are several bullet contacts with a cross cut so just prized the contact slots open very slightly with a thin bladed screwdriver and then sprayed the inside of the towing plug with WD40. I shook out any excess fluid, connected up the towing plug and socket and Bingo! problem permanently sorted. I towed the caravan home a further 90 miles without any further lighting issues so it was obviously either damp, dirt or poor contacts that were the root cause of the problem. However, it always pays to try the most obvious first before tampering with wires and cables because quite often some problems can be an easy fix. It just takes a bit of logical thinking.
