Good evening, newbie here and just come back from our maiden voyage with our new (to us) Conqueror 530. so if my question is stupid I will apologise now.My question is: when I hitch up to my car everything is working, lights, indicators etc. However, on the control panel over the top of the caravan door is showing a green light in the caravan image and an amber flashing light in the car image...any advice would be most welcome. Thank you Roy

you should turn off your caravan electrics the fridge should work and the lights thats all you need to worry about

No such thing as a stupid question Roy, so no apology needed. We were all newbies once. Anything you need to know just ask, there's plenty of knowledgeable people on here willing to help, that's what the forum is for. Welcome aboard.

The leisure battery should receive charge from the car as long as you have a 13 pin socket on the car or two 7 pin ones. I say should receive a charge because it depends if the socket has been fully wired or not. Some installers cut corners and don't wire all the pins. It's not really that easy to tell either because there is not usually any indication.

There is only one way to check if the caravan leisure battery is receiving a charge from the car and that is with the aid of a voltmeter. Leave the car ignition in the 'OFF' position and put the two voltmeter prongs on the leisure battery and the reading received is the battery voltage which should be around 13 volts for a fully charged battery. Switch on the car ignition and start up the engine and take another reading exactly the same. The reading should have increased to around 13.8 to 14 volts which proves that the leisure battery is receiving a charge from the towing vehicle.

I think your issue might be the habitation relay. This cunning little device in the caravan does this.

When plugged in to car without the engine running, the caravan internal 12 volt circuits are fed from the car battery and not from the caravan battery.

When plugged in to car with the engine running, the caravan internal 12 volt circuits are isolated and the fridge is fed from the car and the caravan battery is charged from the car.

When not plugged into the car all the caravan 12 volt is fed from the caravan battery as you would expect.

due to the long wire length between the car alternator and the vans leisure battery it will never receive a full charge from the cars alternator.. the voltage drop is too high..
