We are on our 6th Bailey over a long period. None have had major faults.
We had a Swift Classic Coronette which was fault free many years ago.
We had an Adria bought new around 85 which suffered from water ingress and rot around the grab handles and door bottom. I repaired it and we got what we paid for it on trade in. Nice van though.
We met a Dutch chap,in France who had a new Elddis which was falling apart. He was not happy with the dealers attitude!
He told us he had owned German vans which had defects.

If something is just coming unstuck (not good, i know), surely they are just going to take them off, and refit them. I would check how loose they are, and if they arent well-fixed, maybe do the job myself. No, you shouldnt have to, but i dont think i could stand about waiting for a slot that might never come.

when I 1st started caravanning and was looking to buy a new caravan, our local dealer had caravalair caravans in stock and they were dirt cheap, A childhood mate of mine worked at the dealership as a salesman, when I asked about them he told me not to bother, he actually said that they were loosing their shirts selling them at that price but they couldn't shift them.
vans for all over have the same issues, my old boss bought and imported a hobby van, He put it on a permanent pitch in wales and it literally fell apart over about 3 years.
Hi Ian
Since my posts at the weekend I have spoken to the dealership that sold me the VAN.
They were very helpful and advised that they would thoroughly clean the shoe then restick the cover with whatever glue Coachman advise.
They also confirmed that the lack of cover would not create any problem as far as water ingress was concerned as the joints have two seals, namely the bonding sealant and also the mastic in the joints. As it appears an easy job I will do the repair myself as I have been advised that my warranty will not be affected. This saves a round trip of 425 miles. When I inspected the inside of the cover there was very little evidence of glue attaching to the cover or the shoe, hence the problem. To be fair to Coachman I would suspect that these are supplied by an external source and therefore it is the supplying company that are poor on quality control.
Will let you know the outcome.
This thread has depressed me somewhat. I bought my only ever new caravan in 2015, a Bailey Unicorn Valencia and had loads of initial problems. This was not helped by the dealers. I gave them plenty of time to carry out the PDI and sort out any problems before I took the caravan to France, where I store it. In the spirit of dealers who don't give a s*** once they have your money, they carried out the PDI the day before I took the caravan to France and identified a load of faults. When I eventually had to bring the caravan back (at considerable expense) the dealer sorted the faults and left me some nice oily footprints over the carpet. Needless to say, I never used this dealer again and vowed never to buy a new caravan again. I would now like to sell the caravan and buy a lighter two berth because I changed my Kia Sorento and bought a Skoda Karoq as we moved to Nottingham and a smaller car suits me a lot better. I would like a caravan about the same age as the one I have (2015) and about 1200kg max. Problem is, what do I buy. I don't like what I read about Lunars and they've gone belly up anyway. Can anyone advise me or do I get rid of the Valencia and start doing Gites?
I think you would have been better starting a new thread.

Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.
I've just had a look Billy. I could be tempted but I suspect the changed situation between ourselves and the EU could cause some complications.I'll have to research the matter further. Thanks for the suggestion.
How it works from this yr on is that you would buy caravan paying local vat. Then if you imported caravan to UK you would have to pay UK vat & reclaim the Belgian vat. If you were buying in Belgium to store in France then none of that would apply presumably ?
I bought mine from Decuyper last yr so was able to bring to UK before it all changed. Nice people to deal with. Good English spoken & only 50 miles from Calais.
We have a new Coachman Lazer and one of the caps on the roof became detached. The dealer is some distance away so fixed it myself. Cleaned the existing mastic and the cap with a mild solvent. Applied a liberal amount of Sika 522 from Amazon and applied the cap. Then sealed it all the way around with the Sika. Have travelled 500 miles since, hot sun, cold rain etc and it is still in situ.
thanks for your help Billy. Marquis Caravans UK were dealers for this make in the UK but have now been informed they are not planning to import any more. Looks like it will be de kuyper if I decide to buy one. cheers, Joe
I'm interested by this since I got chatting to a Coachman owner on the next pitch at the CAMC site in Brecon.
He was getting rid of what sounds like a Monday morning effort, in which nearly every fitment and appliance had failed since he bought it new in 2018, and this time is buying second-hand.
Coachman had always struck me as "a cut above", but it sounds like they're as big a gamble as anyone.
------------- Camping Gear expands so as to fill the space available for its transportation.
We have a 2012 Coachman VIP 460, bought 2nd hand in May to replace our 27 year old Lunar Meteor. Last month we went to a local Coachman and Swift dealer to buy a couple of accessories. Like most places they are short of staff, and the chap manning the accessory section told us he also carries out the warranty claims. Whilst discussing possible faults we should be aware of, he said that our van would have been better built than current models. Infact he went as far as to say he would recommend a new Swift over a Coachman, something he wouldn't have done until the last year or so. I must say our van hasn't shown up any issues since we bought it and the only thing I have changed, is I have swapped the original water pump, for the improved Whale version.
Certainly looks as if the sealant has failed. It's either been the wrong compound or has been applied under damp or cold conditions. I've a bit of experience using sealants and adhesives and the bond strength of any sealant is dependant on preparation and application temperatures, with a few exceptions of compound not used in the caravan industry.

Had all four caps replaced last month under warranty on my 2021 875. One cap came loose on our first trip out in the new van last year, I re affixed it using the correct grade of Sikaflex. I did notice that there was a lot of the old mastick under the cap and over the joints so I was not overly worried about water ingress issues at that time.
