Morning everyone,

Sorry if this has been asked before… what is the difference between the camping and caravan club and the caravan and motor home club?

Does anyone have any recommendation on which one to join?

A quick search in the Caravans and Caravanning sub-section on this board alone revealed two recent threads:

Sample threads on which club to join

I belong to both, C&CC since 2007 and CAMC since last year.

I have only stayed at C&CC club sites, and have yet to stayed on any CAMC sites.

The main difference to me is that C&CC club sites accept all units whereas some CAMC sites do not accept tents.

C&CC's website and booking system is far inferior to CAMC's. One cannot manage one's bookings via their website, has to ring their central booking hub to make changes and amendments.

C&CC also charges 25% deposit for each of their club site booking upfront, and if you don't cancel 30 days prior to arrival, you will lose the deposit. Not certain if changes such as postponement is allowed within the 30 days window, hopefully, the others will come along and confirm.

The facilities of the C&CC club sites that I have stayed were all very good.

Since I have not stayed at any non-club sites as in Certified Sites (CSs) for C&CC and Certified Locations (CLs) for CAMA, as in smaller sites with less facilities for members only, I cannot comment about them.

Whether I shall remain a member of both clubs remains to be seen. I probably would, as their prices are very competitive compared with some of the eye-watering prices charged by some independent sites.

Many threads on this, with dozens of posts - you can use the Search tab.
My usual reply is - join both in year 1 and rejoin both, either or neither next year (try the small Certificated Sites & Locations as they’re for members only.) The Site Search here will show you there are hundreds of independent sites, most are not listed in either Club handbook and most are just as good.

As Fiona says, try the small sites, they are usually less than £20 per night, but don't all have loos or showers, most have electric hook up (EHU)

We are in them both for different reasons! We tend to mainly use Caravan and Motorhome Club sites with the occasional Camping and Caravanning Club site (and the occasional commercial site) however, the best deal for our caravan insurance is through the camping and caravanning club and the best ferry packages are through the Caravan & Motorhome club.

As others have suggested, I would try them both for your first year and then see which one, if any, you find most useful to rejoin in the future.

One thing I would say is that with club sites, you can expect a certain standard, and it's quite easy to filter sites via your requirements. You can do that on this site too obviously, but I find that when independent sites say 'no groups, and no noise after 11' etc, they don't always mean it, whereas with club sites, they usually do.
After years of seemingly being cursed to camp next to 2am party people, joining the Camping and Caravanning Club changed all that, I'm very happy to say. I was close to giving up camping at the time, due to my perception that camping was going to the dogs.

If you go a lot, I believe that it does work out quite a bit cheaper. I'm usually in a tent so it's possibly a bit different, but I don't agree that it's easy to find independent sites as cheap as club rates, especially if they have decent facilities.
And also, what with the imminent camping boom, I reckon club membership will protect members from some of the invetible cyncial price raises of the summer (and beyond). Not to mention, there are going to be a lot of groups/families/kids/Benidormers camping this year. Less so at club sites I would imagine.

Agree the C&CC booking system is archaic compared to the C&MC where you can book single nights and amend easily online
