If is solid & dry with all original equipment & also roadworthy then probably worth it. As a restoration project it may not even be viable to repair so worthless. For 2 grand you need a caravan that is usable now. What is the general state of caravan ? If it is the one on eBay starting bid £500 then not worth buying imo.
I paid £1,100 for my 1992 Elddis, and that was in excellent condition ready to use, which we did shortly after. That was 4 years ago and we are still using it.
However, these are strange times and caravans of all descriptions seem to be fetching silly prices at the moment. On top of that with a 1979 caravan you have "classic" status which could push the price up. Classic status does strange things to prices. I bought a Heinkel bubble car back in the 1970s for just £20, and it was in full running order. If you wanted to buy one today you would be looking at £10,000+!
I saw a beautiful little vintage caravan on a site several years ago. Outside was carefully repainted in appropriate colours. Inside was stripped out & totally empty - the family of 4 used it like a mobile tent. Not sure I’d pay £2K for that.
I’ve a ‘92 Carlight Commander 152 which can be described as a Classic Caravan. It’s pretty much in original condition and I’d hope to get what I paid for it several years ago. It’s in regular use in the U.K.
Used more this year as we haven’t been able to use our French van - so far.
Not holding my breath. I doubt it will be this year either. But the Carlight is booked in to another site or two in Scotland this summer.

Thats not as daft as it sounds. Up off the floor, better to heat, not going to collapse in a storm, infinitely more protection for your belongings, and a bit of damp isnt going to spoil much..
The short answer is that it's impossible to advise on price because condition is everything. £2k could be a bargain or it could be money down the drain. The only thing you can do if you don't have the experience to make your own call is to get the van inspected by a specialist (cost should only be £100 or so).
As regards restoration, there are several Facebook groups or Youtube videos that should be able to give you some advice.
