Thank you to everyone who offered help on putting up our trio awning.

Patience was a virtue but we succeeded.

We have colour coded everything now.

Get the poles out and lay them out as if you'd be putting it against the van. Make sure what poles matches with what  -  lube the channel for ease of sliding the awning. Make sure you've got the slidy things (if that's what holds the poles to the van) handy, plus your step. If necessary, colour code with tape (or a blob of different colour nail polish!!) what pole fits with what. Contact Trio for extra help. Hercules does help, too with the tensioning.

An awning tie down's a good idea and make sure you've got lots of appropriate pegs (eg ones for hardstanding)

It's not rocket science, but it does blow your mind at first!! Enjoy the hols.

Lubricating the awning rail is a must, we spent hours the first night we tried to put ours up trying to feed the thing through. Gave up eventually (after 'words') however next morning got up and had another go which was a success.

It is a good idea to lay your pole out. Thread awning through the channel on the van. Erect the middle pole next and go from there.

Reward yourself with a tipple of your choice when you have done.

Most awnings are erected in a similar way.  The previous advice was very sound.  I would add lay out the ground sheet first, that way you can spread the awning out without getting it mucky.  Also you might want to remove the side/front panels before you thread the awning through the track, makes it easier.  Isabella (amongst others) have generic instructions on their web site, plus some movies.  Even instructions/video for a specific model will give you some idea.  See http://www.isabella.net/uk/.  Make sure you have a stiff drink before you start, and make a pact with helpers/partner/other half (delete as appropriate!) that you wont get grumpy/upset/frustrated and shout at them!

I know it is a bit late to do a pretend run, that would be a good way to find out a little before you went,but what others have said is fine, and most of all dont worry about putting it up, there is always other caravanners too willing to help, so just look around looking sheepish and dont be afraid to ask? enjoy your week-end
