Has anyone got or knows where to find a checklist to make sure I've got everything I need to go away in my caravan, guaranteed I will forget something.

I have my own pre and post trip check and to do lists, and have just added another item as part of the pre drive off list - to turn off the immersion heater!

I found I could not lower the drop down bed when I got home even when hooked up to the mains. To my horror, I discovered the leisure batteries had been drained as I forgot to turn off the immersion heater when I unhooked the van from site EHU before I left for home, DOH!!!

Check lists are a great way to ensure you have done everything, even experienced vanners still use them, it's so easy to overlook something when working from memory, especially if rushing, in bad weather when fighting the elements, or distracted!

The trouble with a standard list is it is not personal to you and will tend to be very large. By that I mean we all have special items that we put in our caravan. We have over the many years of caravanning found that lists have let me down. To overcome this I have everything that I need and this stays in the caravan. Except for clothes, food and anything that you need day to day at home. We used to load the van from scratch and invariably forget important items (cork screw and bottle opener).

We have our own checklist made from experience. Virtually every time we go away something else gets added because we hadn't realised it wasn't already on there and we forgot it.

We try and keep as much in the caravan as possible, but there are always things that have to be loaded at the last minute, such as food.

I doubt there is such a thing as a standard list as it's very much a personal thing. Some people wouldn't dream of going without a TV, but we never bother. We probably watch it too much at home anyway. We even have a 12 volt/240 volt one we could take, but we don't.

We made our own list that we check before every trip.
Whilst most kitchen/dining equipment stays in the 'van, we don't keep textiles or food in there. Also things like sunglasses, sunhats, sun block, bite cream, need replacing each time.

pack list, what goes in the car what goes in the van
to do, tyres pressures, wheel nuts, check car fluid levels, turn fridge on etc, etc
to buy, anything required

I have to use filing cards; there’s a ‘theme’ for each one (sleeping, entertainment, clothes for warm, clothes for cold, maps, dog, walking, cycling etc) & incudes things to do before we go (eg turn water heating off). Some things live in the MH (digital radio, one tinned meal, a few laundry pods, ground coffee, dog food, tea towels etc).
I leave some underwear out there after I had to do a hand wash every night on one trip, because I didn’t read my “clothes” card properly; I only had the undies I was wearing & wasn’t near a town to buy some more.
