We always take ours inside and store in a spare bedroom. There will be others who say it's not necessary, personal choice I suppose.
If you do leave them in the 'van, keep them (and cushions) away from the 'van sides.

Like already said, it's personal choice. I for one have never removed the mattress or any of the soft furnishings.

Ventillation is the key word. That's the benefit of having your van at home, you can open it up on dry days for a good airing. We have an air gap formed by the additional wall board section behind all our seating and bed so it keeps it away from direct contact with the wall permanently. I also prop open the fixed bed and seats to allow more air flow under them.

We've always left ours in place without any problems. The van is perfectly dry. However, this year I have removed one set of seat cushions as I am trying to work out how to make some removable, washable covers for them. Dogs!!
