If you are storing a caravan without using a cover is it best to adjust and leave the caravan on a slope/angle/gradient so any rain will run towards the front of the caravan or the back of the caravan before running off ?

I'm just thinking of rain possibly pudding on a roof or causing damp in certain areas of the caravan.

As stated this is possibly a stupid question......😎🤣

Actually a very good question Noris. And you are quite right it is a good idea; which way it slopes is personal choice or dictated by the ground. Mine runs off to the front.

Thanks for your reply. I thought due to the large joining bar near to the back of my caravans roof I should try to keep water running away from that whilst in storage but didn't know if it would have an adverse affect on the front window seals or similar ?

There is no such thing as a stupid question.
I slope our caravan slightly to the front, even though I use a cover. Have to use a cover because our neighbour insists on feeding the blasted seagulls next to the van.

I slope mine to the back (high at front)less chance of water ingress to front locker.

Bobmel, Switch that to sloping to the back and surely there is a lot of water heading for the join bar running across the back of my caravans roof. Yes it's sealed with sealant but I thought I should try to keep water away from this join in the body work.

I'm glad you have replied as this is my predicament, which way is best for having the water run off a stored caravan ? Lean to the front and possibly have a damp front locker. Lean towards the back and possibly have water ingress via roof joint ?

Not a stupid question at all Norris. And yes, that's a sensible idea.

The front locker on my caravan isn't designed to be waterproof - it even has small holes in the bottom to drain in the event of water ingress - so that isn't an issue. Not sure if the same applies to all caravans though.

If the front locker has gas bottles on it the holes are to allow gas to escape in the event of a leak. The locker is sealed from the van body because of gas bottles being in it.

So 664daveS are you saying that water should not enter the locker as is sealed ?

No it is sealed from the van interior in case of gas leaks. I have not noticed any water in any of our vans. Had a few.
Our Bailey has a side gas bottle locker metal lined, with a seal on the door.
There are gas vents in the bottom, possibly in wet conditions and towing some water could get in.

Apologies, are you then agreeing with the front end down approach so water runs off the caravan at the front end rather than the back???

I would say that if your van isnt properly sealed, rain will get in under normal travel/use conditions. I have never even considered sloping the van in storage, given i like to get it bang level when on site. I think the sloping idea is a fishwives tale, and should be taken with a pinch of salt.

I am a front end down-er, but have no front locker (Bailey Unicorn).

One other point for storage. If you are not intending to move the van for a while, and it't likely to be wet (i.e. winter), chock the wheels and release the handbrake to prevent the pads binding to the drums...
