I have just had my renewal through for my touring caravan with the Caravan and Motorhome Club for this year and nearly fell off my chair to see it has increased from £585.53 to £705.61 in just they last year?
That’s an increase of more than 20% in the last 12 months despite all the restrictions over the last year, meaning we couldn’t use it as much.
I have been with the club for many years and have a claim free record , so don’t understand what’s happened in this last year to increase it so much, I also keep the caravan at home?
I was going to ring the club and ask why the massive increase, but before i do thought I would ask on the forum if anyone else has noticed a large spike in their renewal premium in case this is the general norm?
I am a member of both major clubs and have always insured with the Caravan and Motorhome Club.
i think its just a case the same as car insurance where they have taken advantage that you will just renew, its time for you to shop around and find the best quote and then go back to the caravan club and inform them of the price for a like to like quote you have and see if they will price match, if not then its time to leave, and then just remember to start this all again next year

What age is your van, and is the policy new for old?
If it's new for old, I can only assume it's due to the fairly substantial rise in the cost of new vans.
------------- XVI yes?
As well is two words!
How does a sage know everything about everything? or does he? or does he just think he does?
Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.
Ours has just renewed, can't remember the exact amount, but less than £50 and I got it down a bit more by increasing the excess. CAMC also btw. Give them a ring before you shop around.
Thanks for the replies so far.
For those that asked , its a 2018 Swift Elegance 645 (wt upgrade) and have Super Cover (New for Old) and opted for £500 Excess.
I always expect some form of increase , but 20% in 12 months and never have had a claim in all the years i have had caravans and always used the club insurance ?
Don’t know why?
As I said cost of new vans now, with your type of policy.

Ours is 'market value', and has gone down £20, with Caravan Guard. CAMC can charge what they like, as they know most members will just cough up thinking they have the best deal.
I called the insurance after reading this lot. I can move from market value to new for old for another £110.
But given my van (a Lunar) cant be bought new now, i can make up a figure that i would be paid if i had a total loss (not inc equipment), to buy another decent van. I gave £7.5k for ours (2016 model), but to replace it with 'like for like' would cost me about £14k from a dealer.
The upshot being i plumped on a £20k payout for the £110 extra. That should get me a good newer van if it came to it.
Law has changed at start of this yr. Insurance companies are no longer allowed to load premiums for those that renew automatically to pay for much reduced premiums for those that shop around which will probably make premiums slightly dearer for all.

The law specifically states home and motor policies,I'm not sure it covers caravans?
Just done some research and it appears the law applies to all non investment contracts.

However as the CAMC do not offer caravan insurance, they probably should not be affected by the law? CAMC offer in house Caravan Cover.
