My wife now uses a wheelchair, and I was thinking of buying a toilet tent to put up next to our caravan to keep the wheelchair dry. I bought a cover, but the problem is dealing with a wet cover, the only place to hang it is in the shower.
Are there any clever ideas for keeping the wheelchair dry? It is a simple one that I push. I want something simple to use during the winter as in the summer we put up the awning so there is no problem.
Also, do sites allow a small tent next to a caravan? We usually use Camping and Caravan Club or Caravan and Motorhome Club sites.
Any suggestions are welcome.
------------- We camped for years. In 2019 we bought an Elddis Avante 454. We like it as it is short (6.9m) and fits in our driveway and has a fixed bed.
We had 127 nights away in the caravan in 2023.
I take it that the wheelchair folds down and flat so how are you transporting it, in the caravan or in the towing vehicle?
If it's in the towing vehicle just fold it away and put it back in the car again when finished as that way there is no need for a cover or a toilet tent for storage.
If it was a mobility scooter then that's a different matter.

It does fold flat but I am trying to avoid having to lift it into the car boot every time we go out. I must be getting old but I'd rather not lift it too often.

Well to be quite frank there's no other option available other than using a removable cover or some kind of erected tent. If you have a boot where you have to lift the wheelchair up and over the rear bumper then yes it is difficult, that's why I have an estate car where the tailgate lifts up and the rear luggage area is flat so any lifting involved is only knee high. You could consider changing your towcar for something more suitable and to make life a bit easier.
the toilet tent idea sound to be the better one, then you wont need to be folding it up and finding somewhere to leave it while out in the wheel chair and easy enough to take down and bring home to dry out when its time to leave. the only other idea would be to get a framed pushchair raincover, one of the bigger ones that fitted vintage buggies as i think they would fit over it and keep it dry, although if mine i would rather like to think that people didnt see what it was or it might go missing
If you get a cover or a small tent, it means more lifting in and out of the car every time you go out or come back,
I would just keep it in the boot,I've got the same problem with a electric scooter,it breaks into 5 parts but the battery section is quite heavy,I might have to get a hoist but they are £2000
I'll find out for sure on Friday as we are going away and I've bought a pop up toilet tent. We will be at two different sites as we are away for two weeks. (I might eventually work out how to get it back into the bag)

When OH was wheelchair bound for 18 months I got a really lightweight alloy chair for when we were away in van . It went in the boot and was light as a feather and had QR wheels. Really light to push too.
As there is only the 2 of us we have a scooter and it stays in the back of the car for the duration. Whenever we go out for the day it is always there to use as required. I cannot see any point of lifting it out when back on site and then having to find a way of covering it. Also whilst locked on car no chance of theft.

I decided a "toilet tent" would work for us.
It is easier to push the wheelchair into the tent thn to fold it up and put it in the car.

we don't need a cover when away from the site as my wife is sitting in the wheelchair when we are out.
