Can anyone offer any advice on the best way to sell a caravan ?

Is it best to sell privately or are dealers currently interested in offering a fair price ?

Thanks

If you sell privately and its not a cash transaction make sure the money is in your bank before releasing the van

Thank you. Yes I must admit I would prefer to sell to a dealer rather than have to entertain a load of tyre kickers and potential fraudsters at my home address.

Do caravans have a Habitation Service like MHs do? There are plenty of horror stories here about people who have bought a caravan privately & found damp etc. You might want to protect yourself from the unscrupulous buyer who might demand a refund (after they’ve had their holiday) by having the Service or a report done by a reputable business.
We traded in our elderly MH precisely because I didn’t want the tyre kickers to come to my house. Did get less for it though.

If you sell privately my advice would be to say as little as possible in your advert. Definitely don't say anything like "no damp" or "damp free" as if you do you leave yourself open to claims of misrepresentation if damp is found later. Just stick to basics such as make, model and year (if you know it for certain). It can be verified but the CRIS markings on the windows if post 1991. Include some pictures, and let the buyer come to their own conclusions when they view. If I was asked a direct question such as "is there any damp?" I would just reply "we haven't had any problems". Then I'd invite them to look for themselves.

Best Regards,
Colin

Thanks everyone. Had some, what I believe are low prices from some dealers but really would have liked to sell direct to a dealer instead of the hassle of people coming to my house. We will see how I get on. 👍

Yes I know exactly what you mean, but most if not all dealers will want to offer peanuts.

It might be useful to have it serviced by a registered engineer.
It will cost around £250 for a full habitation and running equipment service.

It gives you a good counter against silly offers and spurious claims

It's also an incentive for buyers as encourages confidence.
