Sold the big caravan, bought the static. Our plan was to buy a small, old, 2 berth so we can still go the odd weekend when we fancy a change (when we had the big caravan we went away in the tent but - cough- we're getting a bit past the tenting carry-on).
Anyway, what a nightmare! It really is a seller's market. The things that are being sold for the money that's being commanded beggars belief! We went to see 2 yesterday that were almost held together with duck tape and pritt stick (1990's vans) going for a couple of grand that we walked away from but came up as sold hours later. We've been on a wild goose chase all weekend. That's even if we get that far.....they're usually sold within minutes of being listed!
Oh no! What a nightmare for you! I hope you manage to find something suitable soon. I guess this is an indication that the pre covid holiday market is not returning yet and more people are still staying in the UK. Sounds like it might be another busy year on UK caravan sites.

Prices are just a nonsense. There’s a big bubble going to burst when people who’ve paid silly money now come to sell in a few years time.
There’s a MH for sale on an owners forum that’s exactly the same age & model as our first MH. We paid £10K privately for our 1993 model in 2003, part Xd for £6K in 2018 & this is on the market for £15K, almost 30 years old. Crazy.
Hopefully you got a decent price for your large caravan, feeblecat.

Long story to that Fiona. When we serviced it a couple of weeks prior there were 3 areas of extensive damp at each of the skylights. Hadn't noticed it till we looked up then couldn't believe we hadn't noticed it before - probably looked like shadows in the winter light. Got a few estimates to fix which was coming in about 3k (out of warranty) so decision was fix and sell or sell as. Was advised it was a common problem with Elddis. We chose the latter option and sold to a dealer (one of the we buy any dealers) - I really didn't want the hassle of a private sale. I researched long and hard though, read reviews etc. Bottom line we got less than we had hoped for (lost a couple of k) but more than we expected - I had expected the worst. Still a loss but a better loss. The process was actually very easy and money was in bank before we left the place.
Can I ask who you sold to? We may be selling our van that we currently store in France, and if we decide to fetch it home will just want to sell it ASAP, even if we don't get the top price.
