The threaded bolt appears to be turning with no effort and wont rise or fall in the height. My husband adjusted the front steady to level van and we heard a loud sound and now front leg steady wont stay up. We noticed that a black heavy duty rubber block fell off both front legs but not sure what these are for.... traction perhaps? Any help would be appreciated. I have watched a video re leveling the van now.

Are the rubber blocks corner steady pads that have detached themselves from the legs? It would be worth checking that there is no damage underneath the caravan caused by the steady being wound too far. New nuts are available but you may need to check the size first.

The steadies are only designed to steady the van after levelling using the jockey wheel and levelling blocks.

steadies should not be used to lift the van.. they are there to stop the van rocking after its be leveled using the jockey wheel or blocks under the wheels..

Thanks for the replies.
I have checked under the van and there dosent appear to be any damage. My husband used the legs to level the van even after I said I had watched a video and he was doing it wrong. I am the towing driver.
The legs wind easily enough but won't stay in place and the nut just keeps turning. I have no idea where the black rubber blocks have come from but they are obviously doing something. I think the loud sound may have been the jockey wheel forcing down when the right steady came down but not sure.
I have took a picture of the back steady and can clearly see the black block.

The rubber blocks are the corner steady pads. You can buy a new set of these for about £7. This is a separate issue from your busted steady. The issue with your corner steady is that nut thread is stripped. You can buy these nuts from a caravan shop.

Do you have tools & a vice ? If you do then you can remove steady & replace nut. Nut is about £10. Or you can buy a complete new steady leg for about £50. To remove from caravan you need a 13mm hex ring spanner & some penetrating oil to spray on first. You also have to hope the bolts through the floor do not turn. If they do the job turns into a nightmare. If you don’t understand the above you will have to pay a caravan workshop to do the job.

Im struggling to see how these nuts would strip unless huge force was used.They are built to take the decent weight of a caravan quarter - even only in a 'steadying' capacity. Theres a chance they have been wound too far, and some how come off/out of the end of the threads on the bar.

When I had to change a steady nut on a previous caravan. I found the old nut appeared to be made of plastic. Replacements you can buy now are metal so presumably this was a weak spot on older caravans ? The current nuts are castings so they will not take a lot of abuse ie trying to lift caravan with steady.
