Certainly not unknown for isolation switch not to be fitted, but a false economy IMHO (they only cost around £10), the control unit has constant power draw of up to 15mA, which whilst not huge, will unnecessarily deplete the battery over time. Leaving any electrical device permanently (but unnecessarily) connected to a power source also, at least theoretically, risks an electrical fire. There is no need/advantage to the unit being constantly connected.
It's common practice to fit the isolation switch in such a way that when the key is inserted, the EHU plug cannot be fitted at the same time (and vice versa), this is to ensure 1) that the higher voltage of a battery charger doesn't harm the MM control unit, and 2) you don't accidentally move van and drag the EHU cable, causing damage.
The switch should be capable of handling peak MM current, which Truma/Carver state as 120 Amps. At those kinds of currents, ensure all electrical terminations are well made or they will burn out under load. Ideally rear of switch terminals should be insulated/protected from any unintended/accidental electrical contact, as it's a un-fused supply direct from battery with potential to cause damage/fire.
