Have you traced the wiring back to the consumer unit? Have you checked that the circuit breaker in the consumer unit hasn't tripped? Are the other white sockets the same type and connected to the same circuit breaker in the consumer unit?

Hi Colin
Checked and the red ones have been added as an extra, the wiring is so compact difficult to see if there actually going into the consumer unit, someone suggested they may have been added for an inverter? But on that I can't see how that would work either.
I would agree that they are probably wired for use with an inverter to Identify which source of supply they are connected to.
What does the switch labelled crossover do?

Great question no idea, I've had it on mains and battery flicked the switch and no difference, just traced all the cabling the sockets and the labcraft battery charger are all connected into an electrical block with a feed coming from the consumer unit, I'll need to get it all reconnected to the mains and get the testing gear on it, I'll keep you posted thanks
That's great thank you, the original owner was from Jersey I believe, went through all the paperwork and found a service receipt with his name and address in Jersey, thanks for all the responses, very helpful
