If the previous owners left you the pump one would assume it’s the correct one.
Although one should never assume.

Just a thought - I don’t suppose you have the Aqua roll fitting with a tube down the middle? They are designed for onboard rather than submersible pumps. Even the pre-92 Aquarolls had fairly big inlets, ?58mm as opposed to the current 80mm, according to the makers.
the 29 ltr aquarolls have the smaller opening, fortunately our carver pump fits down it, because if that fails then we will have to source a small size pump, as it would be very expensive having to change 2 barrels along with housing and new pump

That seems to be an unusually large pump and quite a small opening on the Aquaroll. I'm not sure whether that pump would even fit in the later Aquaroll. I've never seen one quite like it with the outlet pipe up the outside of the pump body. The ones I have seen have the outlet on the top.
You are clearly doing nothing wrong but you have been supplied with incompatible equipment that has obviously never been used together.

Take you pump to an outlet that sells 40ltr models and check. I'm sure it would fit them.
There are cheaper aquarolls available now (blue economy model).

That is a standard pistol grip pump.

Really? It's nothing like the pistol grip pump I had with my last caravan. Yes the pistol grip end is the same but I have never seen a pump like that before.

Thank you everyone. I think the person who sold it to me has got it mixed up with other camping equipment.
So, either a new Aquaroll, or better, if you’re ok with a bit of diy, change the pump for something with a smaller profile. The flow rate on your pump is 9l/min, so anything around that will do; cheapest I’ve seen is a tenner on Amazon, but a Whale pump is not much more.
Unclip the pipe from the pump where you see on the photo; gently prise apart the pistol grip (it’s secured with plastic lugs) and disconnect the two wires. Refit is the reverse, you may need to crimp two new connectors on to your new wires. You may need some hot water to soften the pipe to fit.
Good luck - the joys of caravanning eh?
If the aquaroll does not have two openings, one at top and one on side it is a 29l aquaroll. Best to buy the larger aquaroll which holds 40L rather than changing the pump etc. Plenty for sale on eBay and preloved. New they are about £50.
