Hi everyone am new to this and as you may have realised I have a 5th wheel caravan. Has anyone out there had any experience of touring etc. the UK
We plan to head towards the South West, Cornwall and following different routes.
Welcome to UKCS. If you search the forum, there has been at least one recent thread about these. (Might be in the UK sites forum rather than this one. I can’t do links, sorry.)
A summary, if I recall, was that we don’t see many of these units (I’ve only seen them on 2 sites in Scotland) so it’s a bit hard to advise: they may need a big pitch which not all sites can provide.
I saw a lovely one on the C&CC Sandringham site while I was there recently, and that's not the first time I've seen one on there. Must admit I'd love one but they are way out of my price range.
Go on CCRV website . They have a big rig directory of sites that accept all units under 9m . I chose a 5er over a coach as the living space is the same & they are so much more versatile . I seriously have lived in smaller flats .. I wish I went FT years ago.
Hi offsoon.
The OP only posted that one time, 14 months ago. No idea if they read anyone’s comments. Hopefully someone else will find your information helpful in future.
You can find really nice ones for the price of a decent normal caravan. I think the reason they are not that common is the fact you need a pickup to pull one. Which is not always practical if it is your primary vehicle & adds to the cost . Alongside uprating the rear suspension with air bags & getting it plated for the extra train weight. And ofc the 5th wheel hitch itself . Just those two mods you are looking at around 2.5k on the truck. There are plenty of lighter do'er uppers online which you can do away with the suspension upgrade... Oh you will also need to have a C1+E on your licence for most of them. If you look look & do more looking you can find complete van & truck combos for sale on a budget. I think most users over here FT in them . The 3 owners I have bumped into were doing just that.
