With great difficulty if at all. Our only option was to get our Dorema professional cleaned. Sold the awning at a knock down price instead after making it clear about the mildew. Mildew is a type of mould and mould can attack the human respiratory system.

Prevention is so much easier than cure. It’s a stain, presumably from being put away wet after heavy rain, or maybe stored incorrectly, but the mildew might have damaged or weakened the material. However, as it’s dry now (presumably?) there shouldn’t be any live spores as mould must be damp to live, so it shouldn’t aggravate asthma etc.
The Listerine suggestion is a new one…..

The awning is pitched on a winter pitch and has just developed this mildew since weather has turned
So is more than likely caused by condensation, if the Awning is kept closed up, then place some throw away dehumidifier pots near each corner keep them off the ground and check them when you can, it won't cure the condensation 100% but will keep the moisture levels down. If you can, allow some ventilation if the outside temp is the same as the inside then mold wont be able to grow.

The dehumidifier pots are a waste of time and money as you are trying to dry out the atmosphere. However good suggestion regarding ventilation to reduce condensation. If OP has an awning skirt, remove the skirt to aid ventilation. Sadly once mildew has set in, not much anyone can do about it.
