Hi all, I've been viewing these online. Does anyone have one or seen one being used. Seems a lot of money but I suppose they are good for a tyre change as well as levelling up.

i have one to use as general purpose jack.. a simple block of wood is more useful for leveling up though..

Thanks for replying, that's what I do to level now, or use ramps. I do however need a jack in case of punctures, my car has run flat tyres and has no spare so doesn't carry a jack. Wondered about the kojack to do both jobs.

The Kojack is hugely beneficial in terms of ease regarding a wheel change but for use of levelling up maybe not such a good idea as you are much better off levelling up by use of ramps or a short length of timber. Supporting the weight of the caravan is dependent on the area mass which the Kojack with a small base area in comparison to ramps would be more likely to sink into the ground thus the level would then be affected and require adjustment. Levelling up by use of a plastic ramp directly under the wheel is far more practical with no sinking involved or any further adjustment plus they don't rust like steel does.

Thanks, I think I'll carry on levelling like I normally do and buy a cheaper jack for tyre changes.

Kojack have a pretty poor reputation on quality despite the EXTORTIONATE price ... it is after all only a cheap standard hydraulic bottle jack worth a few pounds!!! ... plenty of reports of oil leaks on their shoddy version! The brackets are what you are really paying for!

I wouldn't dream of using a Kojac type jack with such a small footprint (it WILL sink into softish ground unless using a large board under it!) for levelling, and far far from my idea of a stable support, last thing you need is your caravan slipping off!

As to levelling, I've tried ramps, but they are a total pain if using a Alko wheel lock (otherwise fine!), I've tried the 'wedge' screw activated wheel raiser, but it didn't fit my wheels well and was a struggle to fit! I now have a Lock'n'Level inflatable bag which to be honest I've yet to use so can't really comment on from experience.

Considering that the standard Alko caravan chassis is so feeble (do NOT simple jack under a basic chassis rail!!!) it needs an additional bracket to enable it to be jacked up without causing damage, otherwise ONLY under the rather difficult to access and VERY low clearance axle, Jo Public without any other options is forced to buy grossly overpriced Alko or Kojack type products with their associated brackets for jacking/wheel changing! The only alternative seems to be a low profile trolley jack to go under the axle, but then you need solid level ground for it to run on!

I have the advantage of being a professional engineer, so I made (and calculated safe loading figures!) my own brackets for the caravan chassis, then purchased a cheap (Lidl/Aldi middle aisle - 3 year warranty!) standard 2 tonne bottle jack, for the purpose of wheel changing.

As an aside. Often overlooked, the average standard issue car jack is only rated at roughly one third of the weight of a car, as it only needs to lift ONE wheel! A caravan weighs around the same weight as a car, BUT the caravan jack needs to lift something in excess of (caravans are NOT equally weight distrubuted side to side!) half it's weight! .... you're likely break a standard car jack!

I admit, I bought the Kojack but not so keen on the actual jack. Somewhat unstable in my opinion. However, the brackets are ideal to use with a cheap Halfords trolley jack.

The only time I would jack the caravan is at home. If I were to get a puncture while out driving, I would be calling on Arrival to help. I consider it far too dangerous to start roadside work on my own. Much safer to leave it to someone with a big truck to protect from on-coming traffic.

Jacking a twin axle with an awd mover has to be lifted between the wheels, as the motors prevent any brackets being fitted to the chassis. Which makes things interesting.

We think the Lock n Level is amazing for levelling - really well made, so easy to use, no slipping and precision placing if using an Alko wheel lock. If you have a twin axle caravan I think you need a different version, but it can also be used to lift the van up to change a wheel, apparently.
We've had ours for around 8 years now and it's been well used, but is still as effective as ever. We can highly recommend!

I was one who had repeated problems with oil leaks in use, I think the oversprayed orange paint was the main problem, it went onto the piston shafts and broke the seal between that and the adjacent cylinders. I did clean it all off but the result was much the same, I think the rough paint spatter had damaged the seals, the brackets were the best part of the whole system. Reluctantly I binned it and then bought a second hand but unused Alko side lift jack system instead. It was not only much lighter but also when you have a flat tyre the room to place a bottle jack underneath is very restricted.

As for levelling, I use a combination of up to three oblong pieces of old soffit board with one edge chamfered to make the transition up smoother. Once on top I have a flat surface with enough wriggle room to fit my Alko wheel clamp easily.

Dave.

I use pieces of chamfered scaffold boards for leveling, and a small 1.5 ton bottle jack in the event of a puncture.
