My mates got a carlite. caravan 1984 modal. The pump works when you connect it
To a battery, but it’s not working form the pressure switch.. the issue is the
Wiring it’s all mixed up 12 volt is hard wired in red +. & black - then standed cable for
Water pump, pressure switch, lights etc. and used black cable for positive.
So has anyone got a diagram for the water pump and pressure switch wiring.
Or would it be better to update the taps to ones with a micro switch.

Easier to sort the wiring out with pressure switch than start changing taps to micro switch type and the associated wiring. Should be a simple job with a test meter even for a novice electrician.

If the water pump operates when it's connected to a battery you are bypassing the fuse so before tampering about with any wiring, the first place to check is for a blown fuse. Fuses are installed to protect the circuit so if it is a blown fuse and you replace again and blows a second time then it's obviously a circuit problem which needs rectifying. That's when you need the wiring diagram.

Actually using black for positive is quite common. The pressure switch is simply like a gate which opens to let the electric through if ON and closes to stop the electric getting through if OFF.

So it's positive going to the switch and positive when it comes back from the switch. Having 2 core cable red and red would be very confusing and difficult to manage. Generally when wiring a house they use red ring to the switch and black returning from the switch. They would wrap a small piece of red insulating tape round the black wire to indicate its live and the switch wire.

So the wiring will go from a 12 volt fuse to the pressure switch and then to the pump. This maybe positive or negative depending on the convention used. Assuming this was red, the negative will go directly to the pump and will be black at the pump.
