Thanks Winger. It sounds good to me. We don't use a huge amount of electric when in the caravan. Although the water heater, fridge and heater are all gas or electric we tend to use gas so main electric usage is tele, lights. Thanks for the info.
We are the complete opposite. As we are charged extortionate prices for EHU on most sites, we use whatever we can on electric and save our gas. Fridge is mains-only, water heating is mains-only, if we need heating we use a convector heater, and we use a small electric kettle. Why use gas when you are paying for electricity anyway? It would be different if we were on a meter and therefore paying for what we used, rather than paying a fixed fee for an "electric pitch". We would then use whatever was most economical.

I agree. We use gas only when there is no alternative as we are now geared to use electric for almost everything.

if we are paying for it we are gonna use it is a kind of wasteful way of thinking.. sites are ether gonna up the connection charge or go metered..
they will be forced to do one or the other..
it costs money to go metered which makes me think most sites will simply up the the hook up charge but i could be wrong..

Sites already charge eye-watering amounts for EHU, so if I'm going to get charged for it anyway, I will make best use of it. I doubt whether I still use 10% of what I am being charged as I'm not extravagant. I'm off site most of the day. When the average charge for EHU was around £3-£5 a night, I paid 20p a night for electricity on a site where it was metered.

We stayed on a site at Weston Super Mare two years ago where we had to load money onto a card for electric usage, first time we'd come across this...the remainder at the end of our holiday was credited back to our bank account before we'd even got home...around half an hour.
This year we have stayed at a site we've been to many times before but this year they've changed from a pitch fee Inc electric to a metered bollard. We had to set up an account with MeterMacs and load money on to it then when we got to our pitch we entered the pitch number, plugged in and it quickly started working. The remainder at the end of our holiday was refunded. It did make us more careful with our usage but that's not a bad thing. Think it will become more common to stop people abusing the amount they use.
That sounds very much like the same site we used. An excellent idea that I wish other sites would adopt, but I think most sites seem to prefer to rip off their customers by charging for an "electric pitch" however little they use. I believe that only started when it became illegal to re-sell electricity for more than the site bought it for. Prior to that all sites that I knew of had meters where electricity was available.

Posh or what LOL. We just put up with our Aldi cheap fans. Lol.
I don't like the heat, never have, and air con was a must have when I was spec'ing my van.
The same with my house when I relocated to Wiltshire in 2006, and with every car I bought since 2002.
I settled in UK as I could not stand the hot and humid weather in Hong Kong where I originated.
DK
I'm the same way with cold. I hate being cold, and I tend to seize up when I get too cold. All my joints go stiff and I find it hard to do anything much, which is why when the weather dips below "mild" I tend to stay tucked up indoors whenever possible. I don't venture outside at all if I can possibly help it. However, I can't stand extreme heat either, but I am talking about 35 degrees plus.
The only place I have air-con is in my car, as it came with it, but that gets good use when the temperature goes up to 40+ as it did last July when we were in Norfolk with the caravan.

Colin
