Hi all

Not sure which section to post this, so I figured that as I tow a caravan, I'll pop it in here.

I've just attached roof bars for the first time.

When I get above 40 mph, they whistle.

Anyone else experienced this and what did you do to stop it?

So far I've tried tape around the clamps, but that didn't work

If there are any holes anywhere black tape over them usually cure whistles as they sort of work like a flute.

What brand and type of roof bars do you have fitted?
The oval aluminium type are supposed to be better than the steel square ones regarding preventing whistling noise.

You could try winding so think string around them from one side to the other in a spiral and see what happens or should that be listen to what happens

The whistling is caused by the air passing over the roof bars. Wrapping a bungee around the roof bar may help as it breaks up the air flow reducing the whistling.

Can try moving back and forward on roof but may not cure it.

We had a roof box on one year and whistled all the way to France. 😡😱

It's all down to aerodynamics, buy cheap roof bars and get a whistle buy expensive ones and you get a tune you can whistle along too.

We use pipe lagging on the bars. This does the job. I just use insulation tape to secure it to the bars
