Hi all
My Elldis Affinity has a single hook up lead and would like to know if it is possible to get a lead to fit from the caravan lead to the car socket I can have on tap some extra 12V from the car tghe lead to be approx. 10metres. I have a 10w panel and 100w panel.
This will help when I am off grid.
Many thanks
Chris

by plugging in your car to the caravan sockets, you will enable the caravan battery to be recharged, but this can take a long time! its something that one would only do under circumstance of desperation! a fully charged leisure battery to start off with plus a 100w solar panel will keep you going for a long time, we manage with only a 40w panel for a week!

If the van is something like 1998 or newer it will have a habitation relay. This isolates the caravan internal 12 volt system when the grey plug or 13 pin plug is plugged into the car with the engine running but allows the van road lights etc to work. This will only allow the van battery to charge and the fridge to work on 12 volt if it is selected on the fridge.
If the engine is not running but is plugged in to car, the relay allows the van 12 volt interior equipment to run from the car battery instead of the van battery.
Be aware that many modern cars have a power saver function which switches off car equipment in use with the engine stopped. Such as radio and lights. This is to stop the battery discharging too much. This may stop the caravan 12 volt working after a short time.
Search eBay 13 pin extension lead & you will find. Nothing as long as 10mtre though. If you want one that long you can buy plug socket & cable from any caravan shop & make it up yourself.
If there is a need for extra 12v capacity, wouldn't it be easier to fit a second Leisure battery into the caravan (in parallel) then you wouldn't have the worry of flattening your tow vehicle battery......
