You need to be a bit careful with the Penine Pathfinders as they can have a gross weight of 1000kg, but some of the smaller Penines might fit the bill.

As Mick said, we considered a much larger car to tow a larger caravan. But because it's just the two of us, living in town, we got a car that we need, can afford 365 days worth of fuel and all the related expenses, and be better for the environment, than get a large gas guzzler for maybe a maximum a few weeks of total holiday time.
Then we'd need to add storage too.
So we've settled on our car that suits us.
And we've started looking at some top end tents, some trailers etc. Most top out at a weight we can manage. And we can keep a trailer outside.
If we spend the budget on tent and accessories we could have a brand new, pretty luxurious set up.
Yes it does nott compare to the comfort of a caravan but it's far cheaper, a far easier to arrange and manage, and a more environmentally friendly choice for us we can feel good about.
In addition, we can take it to some places our friends go which are inaccessible to caravans which will be nice as it's really off grid and in the middle of nowhere.
Thanks for all your advice - always such a kind and helpful lot. You might see me about, slumming it in a tent!
A medium size trailer will also be able to fit our SUP boards and inflatable canoes. Who said getting older should be tranquil?!

Some of the smaller Trigano/Rapido/Fleurette poptop caravans are in your weight limit and they can fit in a single garage (if you empty the garage!)

We had a cracking tent - just consisted of three or 4 hoops as a frame, and we added an awning that was one more hoop. Had a lot of room for 2 of us. (not sure if these are available now or not?) But, it all went into a lockable 5 x 3.5 trailer, along with all the other gear. We just got sick of the downsides of when it rained, and bought a motorhome! Pulled it with a 2.0 TDI. 206 peugeot. (definately cant get these now!)
