Not sure if anyone has any good ideas at all but we have an on going problem with our tyres on our Lunar Solar (which yes is an old lady) the tyres arew rubbing on the front of the wheel arch, we have had the axle repaired and refitted an only used the caravan 3 times since, does anyone have any good suggestions as to what might be the problem it's nearly driving us mad, we have also had new tyres fitted and the wheels according to the book are the correct one's for the van. Is there any way of measuring the distance and if so what should it be and how should we do it.
if you didnt have this problem before touching the axle, then i suggest who ever did the work should be contacted and the problem explained and sorted by them

We had the same problem before the axle was done and when we spoted the chunks that had been taken out of tyres thats when we had the axle done. But we seem to still have the problem sadly.

It appears that the work has not been done to either the correct or a satisfactory standard.
I feel it's time to go back to whoever allegedly did the work on the axle and make them sort it out properly!
at a guess the rubber suspension would have settled over the years and be riding lower than it should on the "old lady".. having said that new rubbers in the axle should have fixed that..
If it's anything like my Lunar van, there's bugger all clearance around the tyres in the first place to lose to any defects, it's been like that since virtually new when I acquired it. No rubbing tyres, but insufficient clearance to fit 3 legged wheel clamp!
If axle refurb hasn't sorted it (assuming job done properly), maybe look at body sagging on chassis. If the floor is getting soft, it can allow the whole body to drop and reduce tyre clearance. Probably a few indicators inside van, like the way locker doors now fit. You may not have a soft floor in the living area, just at the edges where body attached.
Hi
Fraser Brown Engineering Ltd is the place to contact 01862 851600 for axle advice and repairs he fixed my old lunar he has a web site. Its worth looking at your hitch to see what make it is usually alco or Knott mine was a knott.
Hi thanks everyone for help and advice, yes Fraser did our axle for us and very pleased we are with it. However this problem has now been found and was because of some hankook tyres which had a high profile to them so we have bought another set of tyres and problem sorted looking forward to going away for our next little jaunt.
The 'usual/standard' profile for the commercial/van tyres used on caravans is 80 (and often not stated on the tyre wall markings, as it's 'standard'!), and I'm not sure I've come across a higher profile in common use.
If wider than 'normal/specification' tyres fitted, then the profile ratio can effectively increase the rolling diameter.
Glad you've got it sorted without any extra problems/expense being involved.
