Hi all
I have a thetford N80 in my caravan. I have been running it on electric and would like try it on gas.
When starting it on gas the little gauge goes onto green but when I release the thermostat it slowly comes down off the green into the clear area. Is this normal or should the indicator stay on the green.
you need to hold the button bit longer say 15 seconds or more, its not just a case of push it in until lit and then letting go you have to give the gas chance to warm up and stay lit

The gauge should stay in the green section. How long are you holding the thermostat in for? Mine is a Thetford N112, it takes around 25 seconds before it stays in the green.
------------- I like children but I can't eat a whole one
All different makes of caravan fridges have different operation methods but the principle is very much identical when running on gas. The handbook will tell you to leave the button pushed in for about 15 seconds but from my personal experience that has never been long enough but leaving it for 25 seconds seems to work every time. However, remember that there may be air in the gas pipe which needs to be expelled first especially if you have recently connected up a new gas bottle so it may take several attempts to ignite before the gas is expelled. If you think it's low on gas (which it could be) then just light one of the gas rings which is a sure indication if there is any gas remaining in the bottle.
Thanks for your input everyone. Tried it at 45 seconds and it worked. All I have to do now is replace the electric element in the heater that's if I can find one here in new zealand
