Taking the caravan of the car to put into getting all settled down .
Putting the hitch cover on I notice
The two side pads where on the floor.
They had snapped off from the legs that retain them in side of the hitch.
My question is anyone would know why that would happen?.
Secondly will the snapped of bits
Still tap out.
Thanks for any reply in advance
The only reason can think of for snapping is to much pressure on them. The only can think of this happening is a new Towball without the paint removed or to many shims behind them which will make the lever hard to push down when coupling up. They should come out as it is only the small O rings that keep them located.

i have a new tow bar on a new ball.. its clean with no paint but still very hard to push down.. i have been to north west scotland and back twice now with it.. lets say well over 2000 miles.. its sill very hard to push down but hasnt fell apart.. i dont think sideways loads are taken by the thin bit..
I wonder if your hitch was not fully open at one point when setting the ball into the head. If they were not fully retracted this could have caused the pad to be flexed, breaking the top off the shaft?

Thanks dave
Since the the pads snapping
I replaced them , and took the time to remove ALL the paint of the tow ball.
With the new pads in the stabiliser it hard to engage .
But been out twice and been OK.
It's possible what you had mentioned is a possibility also.
Thanks everyone for your help
