Radio ariel
I didn't even know you could get one. When I installed a radio in our caravan I hooked it up to an old, extending car aerial that is normally inside our front locker. Most of the time it works fine, but if the signal is too weak I can take it out and clamp it onto the jockey-wheel.
Radio aerial, had something very similar on one of our vans.

My radio signal was rubbish so I had a vision plus fitted to the outside,
I suppose it depends where you go, as the signal is going to be better in some places than others. My setup with the old car radio aerial in the front locker works fine in most places, but I have had to take it outside in a few others. A signal amplifier sounds like a good idea and I may have fitted one of them if I'd known about them at the time.

Thanks for all your comments. I have tried using the radio but nothing has come through on it. I will have a go next time we are in the caravan.
I've got one of that style fitted (standard manufacturers fitment) to my van, and the radio reception is appalling, doesn't seem to matter where in the country I go, only ever a few channels and inevitably only main BBC ones!
I keep meaning to whip the radio out (need to remove radio to access all the wiring, but need a special tool) and check that the wiring is all in order and the amplifier is actually being powered.
Not terrible bothered as can use radio stations on TV picked up from TV aerial or Sat Dish, and play music CDs and memory sticks on TV as well. Even considered permanently removing the useless radio to save a kilo or so on my troublesome overweight nose weight situation!
The one we fitted required a 12v power supply which I wired in. Then connect the coax into the radio aerial socket. The antenna just needs swinging out and extending. It worked fine.
I would suggest you check the lead is plugged into, the back of the radio first and that there is power to the device.
Our current van has the radio connected to the Status roof aerial.

No aerial amplifier at all on my set-up but it seems to work fine. I fitted the radio myself, it is just an ordinary car radio that can play CDs or memory sticks too, so we always have a choice of music, or the radio if we want the news. We never take a TV with us although we have one we could take. I find it's good to get away from it sometimes.
On the odd occasion when we have been in a low-signal area, I have had to take the aerial out of the front locker and clamp it to the jockey wheel. That has improved it no end. The aerial is just one of those old-style chrome extending ones that were often fitted to cars years ago.
