When buying a caravan new from a dealer or second hand where can you take it if you have a problem and it's still under warranty.   Can you take it somewhere local or does it have to go to the original seller etc

Where are you thinking of buying from? There's a Swift dealer at Blisworth, which isn't too far from you.

Warranty work will normally have to go back to the dealeer it was purchased from.

XVI yes?

As well is two words!

Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.

The only dealer who is obliged to do any warranty work on the caravan is the one you purchased it from. The caravan industry does not work like the car industry where you can take it anywhere. So while under warranty it will need to been returned to the selling dealer. Out of warranty then you can get servicing done by a mobile AWS . Many people make the mistake of buying at exhibitions from dealer who gives best price, but then realise they have to take it miles for any work to be done. Fuel wise soon takes up what the saving was.. I have dealt with our nearest dealer for all our new caravans for 50 years
Second hand dealer at Blisworth cannot do manufacturers warranty work

We bought our coachman caravan from Glossops during an exhibition. There was never any problem with warranty work as this was done by a local aws service engineer as is all the servicing.

We bought our Sterckeman caravan in Germany and had warranty work done in France without any problems.

Think the situation is that ANY industry/manufacturer approved repairer CAN do warranty repairs, but only the selling dealer is OBLIGED to do so!

Many dealers will decline to do warranty work on vans purchased elsewhere, so best approach to purchase of van is to expect to have to take it back to selling dealer, and therefore give serious thought to how convenient and cost effective that may be.

Some of the mobile engineers are approved to do repair work, but you would likely need approval from manufacturer BEFORE instigating repair by that route, and likely you would have to pay mobile engineer and claim cost back from manufacturer, that may be a hefty bill you will be left with until a tardy manufacturer gets around to reimbursing you.

My van came from a dealer 50 miles/1.5 hours away, a couple of warranty trips back to them was tedious enough, overall, you pretty much right off a day just doing the round trip and dropping off/picking up van, and that's a relatively 'local' dealer!
