Does anyone know what is the best caravan tracking system on the market. Does anyone already have a tracking system which they are happy. I would be very grateful for any advice.v
We have the Phantom Proactive which notifies you immediately if anyone interferes with the caravan. If it is not you, then they alert the police who have to respond as Phantom tracker is a large organisation.
You can also see from your laptop the location of your caravan, mileage done very months and also battery voltage.

Many thanks for this, do you know the range because we keep our caravan in storage around 15 miles away from home.
Range is world wide as connected to the Internet. When I was in South Africa I could check on the location of the caravan.
That's great many thanks. I had my new swift sprite major stolen last month and I truly believe I was targeted. I believe this because it only took them around 10 min to remove my hitch lock and wheel clamps. I also believe they used a tracking device to track my caravan down, so it's a good idea when leaving any campsite to check the outside and underneath of your caravan thoroughly before leaving. I was fully insured but its makes me feel very nervous about getting another one, because these thieves are very clever. So all we can do is make things very difficult for them, even if it means securing all wheels or removing them when in storage. Fitting corner stays locks, hitch locks and fitting tracking devices. 👍

Removing the wheels is probably by far the best thing you can do to prevent a caravan being stolen, but I doubt whether many storage sites will allow that. They would probably argue that they need to be able to move stored caravans in case of an emergency, such as a fire. No problem with a caravan stored on your own property though.

my caravan insurance insists on a wheel clamp , which would be impossible without a wheel , also storage owners wouldnt be able to move them

My caravan insurance requires the same, but I have wondered what they would say if I told them that in future I will take the wheels off. That's got to be more secure than a wheel clamp which any "professional" thief would soon have off.

It’s upsetting, I agree. However, I don’t share the optimism about the police “having to respond”. Not with the current abysmal record for their responses to house burglaries, surely more traumatic & personally invasive than the theft of a caravan. By the time they respond, the tracker is in a hedge: thieves know where to look for them.
There are many threads on here about caravans & MHs being targeted, stolen “to order”, some taken from apparently secure compounds, with every security device removed. Very few get recovered - check out the database of stolen vehicles that UKCS keeps & read the context information.
It would be useful to know how & why any were found & returned to the owners - hopefully someone will say here.
This is right you have to come up with different ideas to secure your caravan. The more you have will hopefully put these thieves off. I also believe these professional thieves will target a caravan they really won't by placing a tracking device on it, so it is really important to check the outside and underneath off your caravan before leaving a site and motorway services etc.
Ian, make some sense out of the following, dead-flogging-a-horse.
Oh and we did have a Phantom system in our first caravan.

In my opinion people are very over-optimistic about what the police can or will do. They seem to think they will jump to attention at every single incident that occurs. The reality is somewhat different. They are so shorthanded these days they have to prioritise, and theft of property, whatever it is, comes way down the list.
The best we can do about our caravans is make it difficult for the casual thief. If the professionals want it, they will have it, whatever we do. Trackers are better than nothing, but they probably increase your chances of getting it back from 1% to 10% at most. Professional caravan thieves will have a caravan out of the country within less than 24 hours, and they know all about how to disable or remove trackers. If the police do go chasing a tracker they will probably find it in the back of a skip lorry or somewhere similar.
Caravan thefts up 7%
Caravan thefts rose by 7% in 2022, a survey by insurer InsurerMy has found, with only 11% of the stolen vans recovered, and the culprit charged in only 2% of cases.
The same survey found that hitchlocks and wheel clamps were by far the most popular form of deterrent, being used in 98% and 90.7% of cases respectively, compared with trackers, which were only used in 8.9% of cases.
