Lovely photos of your whippets!

I chose camping as my main form of holidays when I decided to keep my late partner's dog as my own back in 2008, and he loved it.

The new dog loves camping too, however, he has only camped in the van and not in a tent.

Thanks DK. My oldie (the fawn whippet) has camped all his life, tents and a VW. He is most impressed at the upgrade for comfort 😂
His son (the black whippet) wasn’t born when we had the tents so has only known the VW.
The beddy/whippet lurcher (16 weeks old) had her first experience this weekend and loved it lol! X

After my split with my Mrs I decided a caravan was the way to go to achieve an affordable way of holidaying and exploring with my dog, previously as a couple we'd rented cottages, but they were rather pricey for one plus dog!

First solo holiday was in a tent and dog loved it, after that it was the caravan and mutt took to it like she'd done it all her life (she hadn't!), settled into it like a natural, not a hint of a problem.

Like so many of my friends, the dogs absolutely love the caravans.

Sounds like the perfect solution Monty.

Whippets don’t tend to do too well in kennels so I returned to camping when I got my first one nearly twenty years ago and haven’t looked back. I was lucky enough to do a lot of travel in my younger days, but don’t miss it at all! No airports, airplanes, or massive expense 😀

Our two (full whippet aged 12 and whippet cross aged 5) are fine in the caravan and very quickly treat it like home. They are also no trouble at night once we have settled them down in their beds on the front benches. Unfortunately, they don't really like the car - one gets quite distressed, so we take them less and less. We have now sold our caravan in the UK and only have one stored in France, so it's pretty unlikely that they will come with us now.

My new dog gets excited when he sees me going in and out of the van as he thinks we are off camping soon, bless him.

Our dog and then dogs both loved their caravan holidays and were also fine in the car. Harry the lab also loved coming home in his younger days. When he wanted his morning walk he used to stand on the bed and use a special bark.

Exactly the same as our last dog. He knew when we were getting the caravan ready and started to get excited. If I opened up the back of the car and he saw his cage was in there he would start pestering to get in it. In his last few years I had to lift him up there but when he was younger he would just jump up and in. He loved going away with us in the caravan.

Likewise, pet Collies in kennels is usually disastrous, they go stir crazy! - either bored witless by the inactivity/confinement, or overstimulated by the other dogs in too close proximity, or combination - ALL bad and results in a very disturbed dog on your return, and often professional treatment and drugs needed to bring them back to 'normal' if that is indeed possible!

I was lucky for a good few years, a good friend was able to mind my dog along with her own at her home if I couldn't take mutt with me, but that has passed and now either the dog comes with me or I don't go away, the caravan is brilliant for escapes with the dog, I'd never consider putting her in kennels, I've seen far too many kennel traumatised Collies with the Collie rescue charity I volunteer for, it can change a dog for life!
